Author Interview: C.D. Gorri

About the author:
I’m C.D. Gorri, Paranormal Fiction Author and Creator of the Grazi Kelly Universe. I’ve always been an avid reader, and I have a profound love for books and literature. When I’m not writing or taking care of my family I can usually be found with a book or tablet in my hand. I live in my home state of New Jersey with my husband, our children, and our dogs, Dash and Chewie.

I’m a busy mom of three and finding time for leisurely reading was never easy, so I write stories that are fast-paced, yet detailed with satisfying conclusions. If I thought making time to read was difficult, I was in for a huge surprise when I started writing, but now that I started, I can’t picture myself doing anything else! I love writing powerful women and strong heroes who face relatable problems in supernatural settings! I plan on increasing the GK Universe with each and every story I publish. You can follow me on social media to keep up to date on all my new releases and events!

C.D. Gorri

What inspires you to write romantic fiction?
I am a hopeless romantic! I love happily ever after endings with feisty heroines and alpha males, throw in a little magic and I'm a goner. I enjoy writing about my home state, New Jersey, and I try to chose themes that I am familiar with. I like for my characters to have room to grow. I find inspiration in everything and everyone I meet! I am always on the lookout for an interesting trait or quirk or setting for my tales!

Tell us about how you write.
I write paranormal romance fiction featuring Werewolves, Shifters, Witches, Vampires, and more! To me, the world of the paranormal is full of endless possibilities. As a writer, I can take advantage of that. I can introduce old ideas through new characters and situations. And hopefully, I can entertain you while trying to do just that!

All of my books are set in the same paranormal world and mainly take place in my home state of New Jersey. I call it the Grazi Kelly Universe in honor of my first heroine, Maria Graziana Kelly aka Grazi (grah-tzee). Characters and creatures overlap, but each series can be read alone.

My books genre hop from Young Adult to Romance, Contemporary, Historical, Suspense, Adventure, Fantasy, and yes, they can get steamy. 😉

I write mostly in the mornings before the monsters, I mean my beautiful children, wake up and demand all of my attention! I like using a PC, but also use my iPad Pro for writing and I take notes on just about any available surface when they hit me! Lately, I've found myself designing my book over before starting on my WIP (work in progress). Having the visual first really helps me focus. As much as I'd love to be a plotter, I am more of a pantser when it comes to writing., or whatever the in-between thing is called! LOL. I have an idea of where I want my characters to end up, but sometimes their methods are nothing like how I thought! Writing is truly an adventure!

Do you listen to or talk to to your characters?
Both! The funny thing about being a writer is it is in no way a 9-5 job! My characters get inspired at all sorts of inopportune times, like during parent-teacher conferences at my kids' schools or when I'm just about to fall asleep. Sometimes a scene or dialogue plays out in my head and. sometimes, I find myself asking them what it is they want to do or show me. Thank goodness for good old fashioned pens and paper, I never travel without a notebook handy!

What advice would you give other romance writers?
Read and Write. That's about it. Know your audience, which you can accomplish by reading other successful writers in your genre, and write, write, write. Even if you edit out most of it, write all the time. You must treat your writing as a full time job.

How did you decide how to publish your books?
I went with indie publishing because it suited me at the time as a wife and mother I wanted to accomplish my goals of being published and reaching readers quickly, this was the est option and gives me a lot of control over how my work gets seen.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I am very optimistic about the future and fully believe that readers will be the ones calling the shots! As long as there is a place for indies like me to publish, we will.

Which romance sub-genere(s) fit your stories best?
Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Contemporary, Fantasy

My books are available in the following formats:
eBook, Print
