  • Run Away, Lizzy by Elizabeth J. Sparrow

    0 out of 5

A prologue set in 1968 provides the context for the future sparking and sparring between the two protagonists. Ten-year-old E.J. (Elizabeth Jane) Hatton meets twenty-two-year old Texan heartthrob, Reilly Donner, during one of her father’s raucous Hollywood parties while swinging from a fourteen-foot ladder. E.J.’s hoping for a soft landing but instead, falls hard…for Riley.

Fast forward to 1982. E.J. is emerging from a lengthy mourning period for her adored father. Though drowning in sorrow, she’s determined to prove to her Uncle Wade that’s she’s worthy of her promotion to associate producer for his latest project: a pilot for a prime time soap opera (think “Dallas”). When Reilly swaggers back into her life – as the director for the pilot – she refuses to swoon over her childhood crush and discovers that in real life, he’s “arrogant, patronizing and in love with the sound of his voice.” While she’s relieved that he seems to have no memory of their previous encounter, she’s furious when he dismisses her nickname as more suitable for a Dodgers’ third baseman and insists on calling her “Lizzy”.

Reilly believes that Lizzy needs to be taken firmly in hand and kept on a short leash. Her strategy for resisting such constraints as well as her attraction to him leads to a pattern of avoiding, eluding and running away from him. He, in turn, is mystified, frustrated and eventually, smitten with her.

Conflict arises when the soap’s leading lady, Evelyn Palmer, an old flame of Reilly’s, sees his budding infatuation as a threat to her plans for a rekindled romance. She’s also harboring a secret about Lizzy’s father that she plans to reveal at an opportune moment.

Over the course of the twelve-week production, Reilly evolves into a more nurturing, patient man while Lizzy sheds some of her defenses and reconciles her feelings for him. They become lovers during the last two weeks of the shoot, over a tempestuous forty-eight hour period. Will it be enough to sustain and secure them in a happily ever after future?

“Let other people volunteer to be brides and join the alien sausage party,” says mom with a deep frown.

“Okay, first of all, please don’t ever use the term ‘sausage party’ again. And secondly, Mom, my mind is made up. This might be our only chance. I will convince them to cure her. And I will be on a spaceship — with aliens!” responds Maya.

Maya Arnold was leading a normal life, working and helping care for her sister, until the Cerasteans arrived. Offering a cure for cancer if enough women volunteer as brides, Maya jumped at the chance. Saving her sister was her only goal. She never expected to actually fall in love with an alien, or find best friends in the other bride volunteers.

Since the mysterious destruction of Ceraste, Commander D’Avii and the surviving males have been searching the galaxy for a new home. Finding Earth and its women was a miracle. Like most Cerasteans, he finds humans to be fascinating creatures — none more so than bride volunteer Maya. His attraction to her is instant and intense. Still he knows Maya can never choose him, a warrior, with so many higher-caste scientists seeking their own mates. To do so would shame the scientists and tear the last of his people apart. Yet he aches at the loss of something he never even had.

  • For the Love of the Goddess by Svetla Vasileva

    0 out of 5

Do you suffer from a tender heart? Welcome! This is the story of your next romantic interests. In a short time, you will fall in love with possibly every character in this book.

Do you love mythology? Welcome! You will be given the chance to hold the hand of a Great Goddess of Love, Attraction, and Sex, and treat her French breakfast. No one can resist the charms of this seductress except for a gifted young man, who is in love with someone else.

Are you fond of suspense? Welcome! You will find out who eventually steals the heart of a frankly incredible Parisian woman… You will meet characters pleasant and well-mannered who have to cheat in order to get an unearthly beautiful magical artifact. You will discover the answer to an ancient mystery that will haunt us from the very beginning.

It is a story, in which the author attempts the vindication of a disgraceful Goddess, where men of distinction share a romantic interest, where Gods kiss fairies and leave imprints in their souls, a story of the almost faultlessly happy woman, who demands sensual delight and rarely gets it, a story of tender sighs and the perfect cup of coffee.

What is at stake at all times are the character’s hearts, but they are characters who smile even when things have gotten badly wrong, and this is why we love them. They bless each other after sex, they live for the moment, and some of them have hypnotizing blue eyes. They are gracious and their faces exude light, when you look at them, while they are dancing.

To all of you romantic, fantasy lovers: Welcome!
You will walk in Paris, followed by spring.

She and Jacob go their separate ways, but one huge problem remains for Amanda: She can’t stop thinking about him. To handle this obsession, she writes therapeutic letters to Jake. Her daily writings help her navigate through life challenges and relationships with friends, parents, coworkers, a faux mother-in-law (MIL)…and her occasional run-ins with Jacob, who still seems attracted to her. The harsh and rugged Colorado frontier of 1875 is not the type of place most would consider suitable for a recent widow to establish a home of her own. Yet that is exactly what Henrietta Schodde determines she will do as she impetuously buys a cabin in the newly forming settlement of Estes Park. Despite assurances from Henrietta that the locals appear amiable, her relatives are concerned and recruit the assistance of long-time family friend Collan Wallace, who unbeknownst to Henrietta, has also just begun homesteading in the area.
The last thing Collan desires is to watch over the woman who has been his nemesis since childhood. But the pair quickly realize that there is more than each other to fight about when they discover an unscrupulous Englishman, Lord Dunraven, is hungry for their land.
Endearing and engaging, Settling the Wind, is historical fiction based on actual events that reveals the courage of Colorado’s pioneers in the face of more struggles than they could have imagined.
