Author Eden Claire, a/k/a Island Girl, can often be found working hard on her tan, indulging her Thai food addiction, and, singing karaoke. She believes in peace, love, and a hot alpha billionaire for every woman.
What inspires you to write romance books?
I love writing about love and exploring characters in depth. Romance allows me to write to my skills. I believe exploring love and emotion are my strengths as a writer. Some other genres need a different skill set. Love scenes and scenes where characters are expressing deep emotion are my favorite to write. Also it’s fun to write some hot love scenes too!
Tell us about how you write:
I use a rough outline and I have an idea of the end and characters, but I let the characters tell me their story. Not knowing what’s going to happen next keeps it interesting for me. No fancy software, just my iphone notepad and word. I’m pretty low tech.
Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
The characters are the heart of the story for me and I think for most romance readers. I get inside their head and the story takes off from there.
What advice would you give other writers?
Read other authors and live life outside of writing. Having interests and experiences brings a certain depth to your writing.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self publish since I’m a new author. It’s so easy to do. Besides, I don’t like rejection.Right now I’m using kdp. Being a new author it makes sense for me. With the borrow system and free days it allows readers to discover new authors without risk. I may decide to use other platforms and expand into audio and paperback in the future.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it’s evolving rapidly, and I believe subscription services in some form will likely become even more popular. I also believe that some authors with a loyal following might start to sell direct, especially since the prices of ebooks are so low. I do believe self publishing will only continue to grow.
