About the Author

Briana Blair is an artist, writer and artisan. She began writing at an early age, and has experimented with various types of writing from articles to poetry to erotica and much in between. She has currently published more than 20 books spanning a variety of genres. She is currently working on several book projects including a book of wisdom and a collection of vampire-themed poetry.

In addition to writing she also creates art for several POD sites and produces custom jewelry and doll accessories.

What inspires you to write romance books?

It’s usually just something that wanders into my head. I started just because I wanted to see if I could. I never intended to write much of it, but it was fun and I managed to make a book of short stories. Sometimes my own life or things I see on television inspire me for new stories.

Tell us about how you write:

More often than not I just write what comes to me, when it comes. That’s how I write erotica and poetry. When I’m working on something larger like my wisdom book or the fantasy romance I’m currently trying, I like using Liquid Story Binder to keep everything organized before exporting it all into OpenOffice for final edits.

Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?

I don’t really interact with my characters. Then again, I haven’t done much fiction. For my latest endeavor though, my husband and I sat down and talked about my main character. We discussed him as if he were real, working out his past, his motivations and the like. It was an interesting process, and one I think I’ll use again.

What advice would you give other writers?

Don’t go too far outside your comfort zone. If you try writing about things you have no knowledge of or would never engage in your scenes can lack believability and feel awkward or strained. If you feel you must write about something you don’t know personally, research well and talk to people who have experience if possible. It will make what you write feel more real.

How did you decide how to publish your books?

I got tired of all the rejection letters when I tried traditionally publishing my poetry and had given up for some time on the hope of ever getting my work out. Then one day I was messing about online and came across Lulu. I was overjoyed at the thought of finally having a way to get my work out into the world. I promptly published my several volumes of poetry and actually started writing again. Lulu has been wonderful to me, and I love that they allow me to offer print, epub, iTunes and Nook versions of my work. Now I also add my books to Kindle and Google Play.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?

I think people will continue to do more self-publishing. It allows more writers to get their work out than traditional venues. No more worries of agents and whether or not someone thinks your book will fit the current trends. Bad writing may be published, but amazing writers will also be able to become known, when otherwise they never would have.

What genres do you write:: erotica, poetry, fiction, self-help, art, humor, how-to, spirituality, non-fiction

What formats are your books in: Both eBook and Print
