\nJacky Donovan might not have nine lives, but she does have a few. Bored with being a ‘Stepford’ housewife in Southampton, Jacky packed her bags and headed to London just over a decade ago. She’s now a successful author and, more importantly, curious about cats, whether they be of the feline or cat o’nine tails variety! Her erotically charged romance “Instant Whips and Dream Toppings: A true-life dom rom com” and also her latest book “Simon Ships Out: How one brave, stray cat became a worldwide hero” – the memoir of the world’s first celebrity cat! – have been published to great acclaim in the UK and are now making a splash worldwide. In between her writing she has recently trekked to see Mount Everest; tandem jumped from a tiny plane; been on Canarian TV due to her crazy long fingernails; run a lesbian dining club; escaped from a yoga holiday in a dinghy; and regularly does charity work for Breast Cancer and Gay Pride. She currently spends her time between London and Gran Canaria.<\/p>\n
What inspires you to write romance books?<\/b>
\nA life-changing love affair with a married man compelled me to put fingers to keyboard and start writing romance. From a heterosexual affair came lesbian lovers, threesomes, transgender explorations, and much passionate and public cavorting.<\/p>\n
Tell us about how you write:<\/b>
\nMy creativity is at its best when I am walking or swimming. I confess I call my voicemail and leave messages to pick up later so I don’t lose any terrific ideas I may have. I outline chapters and find potential linkages between different romantic interludes before simply sitting in front of my laptop and allowing the story to flow naturally.<\/p>\n
Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?<\/b>
\nAll the time! I have voice permanently in my head as they whisper their deepest, darkest, and innermost secrets to me.<\/p>\n
What advice would you give other writers?<\/b>
\nDon’t think, just do. Allow your imagination to roam, let your romantic side take over and create plausible but interesting characters in whom readers can lose themselves.<\/p>\n
How did you decide how to publish your books?<\/b>
\nI was fortunate to find a publisher for one and self-published a second. Both are now with a new publisher which has helped sales zoom.<\/p>\n
What do you think about the future of book publishing?<\/b>
\nThere has never been a greater opportunity for authors to publish, with paperbacks, ebooks, and audio books all providing separate avenues for budding authors. Despite busy lives, people still love to immerse themselves in a good read.<\/p>\n
