What inspires you to write romance books?

Creativity finds me where I least expect it –at the gym, out with friends, a casual kiss on the sidewalk, a brilliant sunshine, a lingering touch. Writing allows me to indulge my fantasies and stretch beyond my physical limitations to explore human behavior and motives.

Sexuality and relationships are complex. As adults we repress more than is good for us. I want my writing to encourage people to be free to express themselves and see sex and sexuality as the adult playground it is-the place that we can act, explore, challenge ourselves and above all else – have fun.

Tell us about how you write:

Writing for me is a process. I typically start with an idea or a plot line. I have an excel sheet that I keep a running tab of concepts, phrases, etc. Sometime inspiration sweeps over me and the words flow forth from my fingertips. Other ideas ruminate more slowly, churning away in my subconscious. I like to focus on a particular task, whether that is writing the base narrative, researching or editing. In an early draft there will likely be notes, questions, comments built into the narrative for future edits. I may have a concept that I want to explore more fully or a word that I haven’t quite pinpointed at this stage of the draft. I iterate editing and new narrative, especially as I progress through a story.

Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?

Neither. My experience of my characters is more an embodiment as an extension of myself. I play scenarios out in my head, thinking through what may logically or illogically happen next and the potential ramifications.

What advice would you give other writers?

For veterans in the industry, keep on truckin! For newbies – research before your write and be realistic about your goals. Having a support structure and other writers to help guide you is very helpful. Look for venues that fit with you and remember – not everyone likes everything. Rejection is feedback, don’t take it to heart.

How did you decide how to publish your books?

My approach has been to cast a wide net and modify as I learn. When I decided to pursue publishing I researched ebook publishers and created a target list that included a spectrum of publishing houses with various services and royalty payment structures. I was interested in experiencing the challenges and highlights of each of these paths to make an informed decision about my marketing and distribution strategy going forward.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?

The book publishing industry is in transition. Similar to many other industries, technology has transformed what is possible. With this transformation, a need has arisen to develop solutions that both work for authors and consumers. There are few winners and many authors just making ends meet while companies continue to operate as if nothing has changed or worse yet – looking only for one hit wonders rather than nurturing budding talent.

What genres do you write?

Erotica

What formats are your books in?

eBook
