About the Author

Canadian actress and author ALBINA NAHAR was born in Bangladesh and raised in Bangalore, India and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She appreciates just how taboo it is for a woman raised in such a traditional culture to write about sex. She embraces that dichotomy and hopes it inspires her readers to express their intimate desires more openly. She speaks fluent Hindi, Bengali and Urdu. She holds dual degrees in Psychology and Theatre & Performing Arts from the University of Toronto.

She’s an accomplished model and performer, winning the People’s Choice Award in the Miss Universe Canada competition. Her roles in independent films have graced the big screen at film festivals worldwide. She’s appeared in Maxim Magazine, commercials, music videos, short films and television shows including HBO’s Lingerie. Currently she’s developing her own original film projects. After starring in the cult comedy Sweet Prudence and the Erotic Adventure of Bigfoot she was inspired to further develop the film’s characters in her first novella Seduced by the Saucermen. Her second book The Keyhole explores the taboo world of underground sex clubs from a woman’s perspective.

She will continue exploring the world of literary erotica because, “I’ve had my fair share of challenges with relationships and I understand the struggle as I’m a very passionate lover. I find Women think more creatively when it comes to sex and if you unleash her mind and senses, there is no such thing as boring sex and faking orgasms.”

What inspires you to write romance books?

My inspiration for writing romance (well erotic romance) such as THE KEYHOLE and SEDUCED BY THE SAUCERMEN came from my growing up in an extremely conservative environment. I was raised in Bangladesh, India and the UAE in a mix of traditional Indian and Arabic culture. Sex was a taboo topic so women rarely expressed their desires or explored their sexuality. Through my acting appearances in erotic (not pornographic) films and by writing erotica I want to inspire women to explore their boundaries and express their desires. If I can do it so can they. THE KEYHOLE is about a woman doing just that… it’s a sensual odyssey.

My path to writing erotica was very unique. As an actress I had appeared in the Cinemax television series LINGERIE, and then was one of the leads in the erotic cult movie SWEET PRUDENCE AND THE EROTIC ADVENTURE OF BIGFOOT. After some initial awkwardness I really enjoyed doing these projects, and considered them to be acting out erotic fantasies. I want to point out that the sex is all simulated in those projects – they are erotica, not pornography.

In the same breath I’d been writing film and theatre projects as part of my curriculum – I have degrees in Theatre Arts and psychology from Toronto University. Writing was something I found creatively fulfilling, almost more than acting.

After SWEET PRUDENCE was released I was amazed at how many women really enjoyed the film, in part because they could see that the cast was enjoying themselves. Then I sort of stumbled upon the huge number of erotic EBooks that was written be women, for women and thought, hey, maybe this is something to explore.

I mentioned that to the director of SWEET PRUDENCE, suggesting that he write a follow-up book, but he turned around and said, “Well, why don’t you write a book?”

Since I knew the two main characters so well it was an interesting opportunity to take the ball and run with it. Knowing the characters took some of the fear out writing my first book, and allowed their voices to flow. The film’s director encouraged me to be creative and not worry about what anyone else, including him thought.

My second book THE KEYHOLE is an entirely original concept, without the crazy humor. I think writing SEDUCED BY THE SAUCERMEN gave me the confidence to make that leap.

Tell us about how you write:

I am a very detailed writer, which stems from having just finished university. The academic years ingrained discipline so I feel most comfortable creating detailed outlines and knowing exactly where the story is going before typing “chapter one.” Likewise I study the characters and their environment in depth. Before writing THE KEYHOLE I interviewed owners of on premise sex clubs (they prefer “Lifestyle Clubs) as well as members so it gave me a tremendous insight into the many personal reasons people are drawn to that lifestyle. It is not what you would expect. I did attend a club night, but didn’t participate in the festivities.

My first book SEDUCED BY THE SAUCERMEN was a follow up to a movie I had starred in. This was an ideal first book, because I came in knowing the basics of the characters and expanding upon them. That gave me the confidence to move forward with entirely new concepts.

I don’t really use software; I’m more of a yellow legal pad and word user. But I do eventually use Scrivener to create my EBook files.

Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?

It’s funny because while writing SEDUCED BY THE SAUCERMEN I could actually call the main character Sweet Prudence up on the phone. Angie Bates who played the character in the original film brought such a distinctive voice and energy to Prudence that just hearing that on the phone sends you into creative overdrive. She is, and always will be the voice of Sweet Prudence.

But in terms of all the new characters in that book and THE KEYHOLE… I have long out loud conversations with them while writing. I guess it’s like a psychic channeling a spirit, except my spirits talk about very naughty things.

What advice would you give other writers?

Having only written two books I’m not really comfortable giving much advise. My only insights would be to keep writing constantly and become comfortable with the process. Don’t set insane goals for yourself because that will only lead to frustration. Also don’t hesitate to contact other writers and ask questions. You would be amazed how many writers, especially in our niche are open to discussion.

How did you decide how to publish your books?

I am a mix of published and self-published because Boudoir Reader is a very boutique operation managed by a dear friend and fellow creative person. I have complete approval and control over my books, so it’s really a perfect storm. He also helped me to secure great footage for my book trailers. So I retain my independence without being completely adrift on my own. I’m lucky because It works for me, but that does not mean other people shouldn’t self publish.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?

From what I’ve seen mini publishers, like Boudoir are really the future. Less of a traditional publisher and more of an enabler, taking the burden off the writer while protecting their creative/intellectual properties. Any entity claiming to be a publisher should be very visibly increasing your potential readership. If they are not, run away or do it all by yourself.

What genres do you write:: Erotic Romance, Science Fiction erotic romance and soon fantasy erotics

What formats are your books in: eBook
