About the Author<\/b>
\nZeec\u00e9 Lugo was born in Puerto Rico, grew up in Brooklyn, and lived in many places. She spent seven years in the U.S. Air force, taught for many years in Miami, and even spent a year working for the IRS. <\/p>\n
Her early love was reading. The worlds of Pern, Middle-earth, St. Mary Mead, and Shrewsbury Abbey had an incredible influence and hold on her imagination.
\nShe wrote her first novel, Daniel\u2019s Fork, in two months, spending long hours at her task. During that time, she ensconced herself in her bedroom with her computer, barely coming out to grab a cup of coffee or a snack. One day, her nearest neighbor came desperately knocking at her bedroom window, afraid that Zeec\u00e9 might be dead; no one had seen her for days!<\/p>\n
Daniel\u2019s Fork was meant to be the first book in a romantic trilogy. Little did Zeec\u00e9 know that stories have a way of going where they want to go. Daniel\u2019s Fork turned out to be a journey to the future past! It is a sexy, romantic mystery set in the future, giving birth to a fictional universe: the Daniel\u2019s Fork universe.<\/p>\n
What inspires you to write romance books?<\/b>
\nMany things inspire me. My dreams and fantasies. Works by other authors I admire. Sometimes a piece of music I hear or a vivid dream from the night before.<\/p>\n
Tell us about how you write:<\/b>
\nI do not write every day, but I do something to do with the writing process every day. I may be re-reading and highlighting changes today, editing tomorrow, and writing new material the next day. When I sit down to write, I do it no later than 8 A.M. and write all day. I lose myself in the process.<\/p>\n
Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?<\/b>
\nI vary. Daniel’s Fork was by the seat of my pants. Strongheart’s Woman was outlined. I think at least a loose outline is necessary to keep you from writing material that later must be discarded. I recently read a book called ‘Take Off Your Pants,’ by Libbie Hawker which teaches you to outline loosely but in a way that makes sense. I am writing my current work in process using her method. It seems to be working well for me.<\/p>\n
What advice would you give other writers?<\/b>
\nConcentrate on characterization. Romance is so much more than just sexual tension. And work on the dialogue! If the dialogue is not moving, neither will be your story.<\/p>\n
How did you decide how to publish your books?<\/b>
\nI did not have the energy nor the patience to go the traditional route. I also wanted total control over what I do. There is only one way to do things my way, and that is to self-publish.<\/p>\n
What do you think about the future of book publishing?<\/b>
\nI think that as companies like CreateSpace and Lightning Source become more widely used, many authors will opt to self-publish. The disappearance of the major book stores is limiting to the sale of print books. Ten years ago, there were five major book stores in the mall near my home. Today, I have to drive miles to find the nearest Barnes & Noble. It is so easy to get on the net and order the print book or more commonly, the eBook. I don’t think print books will disappear completely, but I think that the big print publishers will.<\/p>\n
