Here is a short sample from the book:
His body is warm and solid, his big arms slowly coming up to return my embrace. I’m usually on the same level as most guys, if not taller. With him, though, I feel delicate for a change.
He pulls apart from me slightly, resting his forehead against mine, our breaths mingling. Something tightens in my lower belly, an anticipation I can’t describe. That’s never happened before.
I feel it then. The barest brushing against my lips. I’ve never had such a soft kiss before. The guys that have kissed me previously were always mashing their mouths against my lips, sticking their tongues down my throat. There was never this gentle coaxing, this hypnotic pull. Encouraging me to kiss back, to equally participate.
The brushes get firmer and I follow suit, caught up in it, my palms smoothing down the hard muscles of his back as his fingers caress the sides of my waist, sending flutters through my stomach.
The tip of his tongue touches my own, the contact electric and thrilling, and I let out a moan, unable to keep it inside any longer. His hands grip my waist roughly in response, a spike of lust bolting through me at the sudden move.
The front door slams and we break apart, the sound of Audrey setting her stuff down in the foyer like a splash of cold water against us.
He jumps up, running his fingers through his hair and paces the small length of his room, his breathing choppy. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that. We’re roommates. Friends,” he shakes his head. “That obviously wasn’t a good idea…”
I’m still lost in that kiss, the gentle way he held me until the very end, when his hands tightened on me. God, I liked that. I’m used to rough treatment from guys, but I’ve never enjoyed it. Coming from him, though, it was almost… exciting.
I agree with whatever he’s saying distractedly, studying his lips. Have they always looked so soft? The stubble on his chin felt nice, not scratchy like I thought it would be, but more like a pleasant tickle against my own smooth skin. My gaze lowers to his arms. Thick with muscle, yet they held me so tenderly.
“Samantha? Sam?” I tune back in. “Maybe you should go back to your bedroom. I wouldn’t want Audrey to think…”
What? “Oh, yeah! Sure. Sorry I barged in on you like this. I’ll just grab my stuff.” I glance around. I didn’t bring anything in with me. Right. “Okay, bye.”
I hustle out of there and into my own room, gently closing the door behind me and flop down on my bed. I touch my lips in wonder, the imprint of him still there.
