About the author:
This is my first novel.
Nicole Chandler was seventeen the summer she fell in love with Jake Evans, the sexy, smart, rough-around-the-edges mechanic who knew more of the dark side of life than any kid ever should.
Nicole was a sunshine Jake had never known—feisty, brave, funny. Definitely sexy. And she believed in him as no one ever had and made him laugh as though life might turn out okay. When the summer ended, Niki held his heart.
Then she broke it.
Secrets, misunderstanding—mistakes they both made—sent their lives on different paths, their story unfinished. But twenty-three years later, they still remember. Yet when they meet again, forgiving is one thing; forgetting is another.
Young love is fragile, but with histories and exes and families, grown-up love is messy. And while building trust is hard, rebuilding what was shattered may be impossible.
This is my first novel.

Tori has put up with Gerard’s bullying for so long, she is surprised when Tom, a visiting adviser to her school, turns into an ally she doesn’t really want. Fiercely independent and wary of people (except for children, of course), she is perfectly capable of dealing with Gerard by herself.
Despite her efforts to keep Tom at an arm’s length, he manages to gain her trust, and a tender relationship starts to form. A future with Tom looks certain until a misunderstanding leads Tori to pull away from him. When she recognises her mistake, it is too late to win him back.
The breakup affects her greatly, down to the one constant she could always fall back on in times of crisis: her love of teaching. Tori fails to meet her own high expectations of an inspiring teacher which leads her onto a downward spiral of feelings of inadequacy and guilt.
After weeks of misery, Tori takes to the hills of Central Otago to clear her head. High up in the tussock country she loves so much, she realises that it is time to move on and let go of the past.
The decision comes as a relief, but a sudden weather change gives Tori little time to dwell on it.
Will Tori make it home safely to put her decisions into action? And will Tom ever find out what happened to her?

This cluster of 7½ literary short stories presents to you the romantic-sexual facets of: Narain who lusts for Munika, hypnotized by her bosom in The Arithmetic of Breasts, and old Jaganlal who wants a favour from young Dia in The Room with a Sea-view.
Jackie who is in love with Nic in Sky Park, and the surgeon in Dr. Love who is changing much more than Sneha’s hairline, nose, lip and chin.
Shonali and Neel who are realizing that infidelity might not be such an easy thing in The Scent of a Conscience, and a woman who walks the tight rope between tradition and sexual exploitation in A place they call Scary.
And, Sunil who meets the woman of his desires in What Men Want through an adult dating site.
Through these stories, Rochelle Potkar explores the intensely personal ‘unrelationship’ that exists alongside its conventional twin, the relationship.
