What inspired you to write your book?
I’ve always loved reading Cinderella-related romances as they give me a dreamy feel about life and provide an escapade from reality. Having read Sweet Valley High and Sweet Dreams series in my coming of age years, I am keen to relive these sweet fantasies in the minds of my readers so that they will continue to enjoy the sizzling chemistry and idyllic dreams of college/university romances.
Here is a short sample from the book:
Chapter One: Love At First Sight
Founded by Mr. Morale Dublin in 1998, Glamorous Socialite College was established as a prestigious and exorbitant fee-paying college for elites, who wished to network with the upper class, and gain the proper platform for setting up their future careers through beneficial connections.
Entering the college meant paving the pathway to success, as the desired networks for their careers and marriages would be mapped out for the emerging elites, even prior to their entry into society.
Baby blue eyes. Thick, silky tresses flowed down to her waist, with a slight brown tinge of ripened chestnuts. She had an angelic face, framed by doll-like fluttering eyelashes, and soft lips that beckoned to be kissed by any mesmerized boys who fell for her charm.
Her name was Tiffany Brown – a new sophomore at Glamorous Socialite College – and a future image consultant in the making. Cutting a striking figure in the tight, low-cut, black leather bustier teemed with a matching pair of cherry pink shorts, she was definitely testing the imagination and resilience of boys, undergoing their puberty phase.
Flaunting a deliberate view of her lovely, milky white chest, as she flitted across the classroom, endorsing the role of a hapless damsel seeking assistance in her French homework was undeniably, her forte.
It was April Fools’ Day – 1st April 2012. Rick sighed resignedly, as he watched her flirt within the mural painted classroom, clearly relishing the attentions of her admirers. He could never attract the attention of a wall flower like Tiffany.
Like an unpolished pretty gem, she shone brightly and won the admiration of many young male suitors. But her brain was as murky as the muddy swamp and any boy who got entangled in a web of destiny with her, never failed to leave unscathed. She was obviously the bane of any male existence and to be entwined in any torrid affair with her, only spelt trouble.
“Rick Brooklyn, why are you sitting there in a daze?” Mademoiselle Cherie’s voice trumpeted across the room, startling him from his daydream. She tapped the laser pointer on her desk, looking at him with marked disapproval. “Please read the French verbs on page twenty of your textbook now and quit staring at Tiffany!”
Scowling to himself, Rick immediately stood up, flipped over to the designated page, and recited the French verbs to perfection. His excellent recital of the French verbs earned him a broad smile from the abominable Mademoiselle Cherie, who was immensely pleased that her pet pupil had been working diligently on his French.
Rick let out a controlled breath and silently congratulated himself for passing the stringent assessment of his demanding French teacher. Back on his chair, he noticed Tiffany grinning at him in amusement. Sensing his drumming heartbeat, he blushed with embarrassment, as it dawned on him that Tiffany had realized he had been observing her for a gap of time.
The rest of the day rocketed crazily, with tons of homework assigned by the various subject teachers. Before everyone realized it, lessons were over. Rick felt carefree as a lark, and he ran towards the music room to practice his favorite instrument – the piano.
Turning into a world renowned pianist was his true aspiration – a dream that seemed so far, and yet so near. But he simply loved the feel of running his long, tapered fingers across the keys of the grand piano. The tinkling sounds were indescribably soothing, and they never failed to transpose him into another dimensional realm, leaving behind the harsh realities of life.
Gently humming the tune of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, whilst fingering the keys of the piano, Rick failed to notice a petite figure, sitting huddled in the corner of the dimly-lit music room. The lilting music lifted her spirits, and the young girl gently got to her feet and moved in his direction.
Enchanted by the lovely tunes that were emanating from the piano, Shania twirled her skirt, intermittently leaping left and right to the rhythmic sounds of the piano. Lost in the world of fantasy and music, she transformed into the likeness of a beautiful swan, dancing gracefully to a choreographed dance of her own, in a matching rhythm with the soulful tunes.
Jerking his head up in amusement, Rick was impressed by Shania’s lithe dance steps, seemingly reminiscent of the dance steps enacted by a renowned ballet dance performer he once watched at the Broadway theatre – Mrs. Flora Kensington.
As the music slowly ebbed to a tidal stop, Shania made a pretty curtsy and smiled daintily at Rick. Clad in a lavender angora sweater and a cream lace skirt, with hazelnut brown ringlets framing her flawless oval-shaped face, the young girl of an estimated eighteen years, was indeed an impeccable English beauty.
Looking into her innocent, double-lidded round eyes was akin to swimming in the blue-green ocean, and Rick felt powerfully ensnared by the aura of purity, radiating from the young girl.
