About the author:
I live on a boat in a marina with my wife. We enjoy the ambience, friendliness, and leisurely lifestyle living afloat. It gives me time to thoroughly contemplate my stories and work out the plot details and emotions of my characters.
I write with the intention of always having my characters react to situations in a realistic manner. Many of my stories have a basis in a real-life event, even if they are fictionalized. I want my readers to identify with my characters motivations even if they would never find themselves in a similar situation.
My characters almost always find themselves in a strange situation not of their making. They usually have to work through a new experience or dilemma they had never faced previously. I like to show that they learn and grow from the experience and that they become better from having gone through it.
What inspired you to write your book?
I met a friend whom I hadn't seen in a long time and almost didn't recognize her. She had lost over a hundred lbs, gotten divorced, and had a new job. Her experience is the basis for the story.
Here is a short sample from the book:
“I almost didn't recognize you,” Erin explained, then moved toward her. They hugged as they met, then held the embrace for a moment before stepping back and eyeing each other.
“I guess I have changed since the last time you saw me.”
“Changed!” Erin exclaimed. “More like a transformation. You look great.”
“And I feel great. I've lost more than fifty pounds,” Jackie said proudly.
“Wow, that's amazing. Didn't you work at that fried chicken take-out joint.”
“I left that place more than six months ago,” Jackie explained. “How do you think I lost all the weight?”
“How's Earl?” Erin asked to be polite. She never liked Earl. He drank too much beer, smoked too much dope, and didn't pay enough attention to Jackie.
“I left him more than seven months ago. How do you think I found my sanity?”
