About the author:
“Fairy-tale fantasies for the heart.”
Ann Sepino is an independent Filipino author who loves all things fantasy romance. She enjoys creating the perfect happily ever after for her knights-in-distress and damsels-in-shining-armor. Her inspiration comes from the fairy tales and folklore of her childhood, as well as her interest and experience with local culture. One of her best titles, 'Tribeless,' was influenced by these very elements.
What inspired you to write your book?
The author was inspired by, out of all things, a nearly intolerable heat wave that happened on a sunny afternoon many years ago.
Here is a short sample from the book:
Sweaty bodies everywhere, men with foul breath and fouler tempers, creatures with evil eyes that ogled me from head to toe. They were all there. As much as I wanted to run away from the everyday phenomenon known as slavery, I could not.
This was normal, I told myself as another one of the drunken spectators tried to yank me to where he was.
In Nihilist, the name of this godforsaken planet, this was the everyday scene at the market. The rich nobility known as the Swells, their noses high, their silver skin polished with ivory-hued soap in the early mornings, mingled with the merchants, haggling about prices which they could very well afford without any discount. And people like me, a Tramp, either waited patiently beside their master Swell to carry his newly purchased goods, or stood as the good itself, ready to be sold and bought at an upper-class citizen’s whim.
“Well well well…” I was pulled out of my glum musings by the low grumble of a man close by.
I looked at his fat, oily body, barely covered by a mud-colored vest and dark pantaloons. He was standing barefoot on the ground, unmindful of the hot sand that stuck between his toes. An auctioneer. “What do we have here?”
