What inspired you to write your book?
I have always loved to write but I think my inspiration comes from my maternal grandmother. I remember sitting around the table listening to her stories and getting lost. I never got tired of hearing her tales of the old days.
Here is a short sample from the book:
The halls of Madison high school were silent this time of the day. Except for the occasional whistle of the varsity basketball coach running drills and the footsteps of the janitors, Lia Michels was alone.
It was the perfect time to take advantage of the school’s baby grand piano. A wealthy patron donated it last year and everyone in the art department was jealous, especially the theater teacher. Lia didn’t care, it belonged to the choir class and she intended to get full use of it. Lia quickly locked her classroom and made her way to the auditorium before anyone could see her.
It was her sixth year of teaching at the high school. It wasn’t her dream job, but it paid the bills and gave her the summers off. Most of all, it gave her the opportunity to do what she loved… sing.
She sat at the piano, playing a rendition of Janet Jackson’s again. As she closed her eyes, she let her mind drifted back in time, back to a time when she was fearless and knew exactly what she wanted out of life…….
