About the author:
Amanda Marks is a nom de plume for a book editor who lives in Connecticut. She is also an amateur actress and playwright…writing one-acts for this edgy playgroup in New York City that performs depressing, gut-wrenching stuff that would not be good to bring a date to, unless he/she is super cool. When she's not putting books together, "Amanda" is cooking, reading, writing and knitting. She lives with a husband and cat. This is her first novel.
What inspired you to write your book?
I met this hot lawyer in a voir dire (interview for jury duty) who used his charms to persuade me to his side (no doubt). I had a moment of crushing attraction to him…it really was quite fun. After the interview (the trial never happened), I thought, what would happen if this lawyer's wiles made a woman fall head over heels in love with him? So that's how Amanda's (the protagonist in my book) dilemma came about.
Here is a short sample from the book:
The strange thing about this, Jake, is that I am a Certified Loser Female. I have no children, no grand career. And I pay a man to live with me. (Yes, Louis is unemployed at the moment, a fact I revealed to you at the voir dire.) I know of nothing else, so that’s the way it is. But things can change. I still have hope. Even though I am not the type to attract magic into my life, I feel confident that I won’t have to do a lot of work to make this beautiful change with you a reality.
