About the author:
"Literature is all, or mostly, about sex", according to Anthony Burgess.
Hi, my name is Sable Rose and I revel in being different. My passion is writing and I write only what my characters tell me to write.
I write morning, afternoon, night. Who needs sleep? Yes, I'm a writing addict.
In between writing-phew-I also read-a lot. And watches lots of TV and movies. I love dancing, listening to great music and I dream of one day being able to find time to learn both pole-dancing and belly dancing. I wish…
I adore traveling, and have visited over 15 countries and have formed friendships with people of varying cultures. I use these experiences to craft my stories.
I live in Lagos, Nigeria. No dogs yet. Definitely, no cats…
Here is a short sample from the book:
“There’s been some talk about the recent rise in manna prices,” Charles said in his cut-glass British accent.
“Has there?” Xavier Osagie muttered, the fingers of one hand rapping on a thigh. He pitched an unfriendly glance at Charles,
perched to his left on a padded wrought-iron chair.
Charles Everett. Head of New Business in Neter Construction. White with movie-star looks, centre-parted wavy hair, a two-
button suit over a white tee, a silver ring on his left pinkie finger.
Charles Everett. One of the Pure Ones, a middle order angel.
Once, Charles had been an enemy to him and his brothers, slaughtering everyone he could lay his hands on. Now, he was an employee of the Neter Group. An assumed ally.
For now.
“Yes, unfortunately.” Charles hooked one elegant leg over the other.
“And who’s been complaining?” Augustine Cruz, sitting right beside Xavier, on his left, asked in his raspy voice.
“Nephilim… mostly angels,” answered Charles.
Mostly Pure Ones, I bet. Xavier gritted his teeth. He hated being forced to play nice with the angel who’d massacred tens of his brothers two hundred years ago. The truce had bound his hands and those of his two closest brothers, Dominic and Augustine. But, one day, he would wreak his vengeance on Charles.
One day.
“It’s a temporary episode. The League of Humans is to blame. They vandalized equipment in two of our mills that grind the manna grain, located in the far north of the country, in Yola and Sokoto. Those facilities were located in remote areas and not as heavily guarded as they should have been.” Xavier explained, staring into Charles’s hazel eyes. “But, we’re remedying the situation. Soon, we’ll be back to full production of manna and the prices will drop.”
“You’re the CEO of the Neter Group, old chap, and so, I assume you know what you’re doing…” Charles murmured, glancing down at the ring on his finger.
Xavier flashed him a glare. Augustine frowned. On Augustine’s left, Dominic Kotze stiffened in his chair.
The fifth member of the group of six ringed around a table on the roof of the newly-launched Hotel Divinus, a Nephilim named Isaac Jumbo, cleared his throat and mumbled into the tense silence, “The League of Humans is a pack of annoying troublemakers—”
“—I’m not saying I condone the shedding of blood…” Charles interrupted, his face turned away from Isaac who was sitting to his far left.
Since when? Augustine’s lips tightened. His fingers itched to plunge a dagger into Charles’s heart. He couldn’t forget the times when he’d had no choice but to run and hide from Charles and his like. It wasn’t even that long ago, only a few hundred years and now, we’re all supposed to act like it never happened. Fuck the truce.
“But…” Charles continued. “Those humans in the league should be made to pay for their sins.”
“You mean… they should be killed…” Dominic said.
Charles shrugged. “For one thing, that would send a message to the leaders of the group. No more kid gloves.”
“I don’t think killing them should—” Isaac began.
Charles gave him a glance dripping with contempt. “—No one asked your opinion. You and other Nephilim have no business being on earth.”
Isaac’s mouth plummeted open. The hand gripping his glass of Dom shook.
***
Dominic frowned. Charles wasn’t even bothering to hide his hatred. Who did the Pure Ones hate more, anyway? Lower order angels or Nephilim? It was only the human race that they claimed to like and yet, only seconds ago, Charles had been advocating the murder of a group of humans.
“We too have a right to live on this planet,” Isaac murmured, his voice trembling. “We were born here. It’s not our fault that angels left heaven to come here and that they couldn’t keep their dicks in their trousers. Our race has contributed to the development of—”
Charles sneered, “—couldn’t keep their dicks in their trousers? You must be referring to lower orders…” He tipped his head at Xavier and Augustine.
Augustine glowered. “Have you noticed how beautiful most of the women on earth are? You ought to try fucking some of them.”
Charles threw a furious glare at Augustine and muttered, “Wanker.”
The woman, the only human in the group, balanced on a seat adjacent to Charles, on his left, rolled her long-eyelashed brown eyes.
Augustine focused on her. His gaze snaked from the top of her hairless, well-formed head to her high breasts and dark, slim, muscular body clothed in a skintight skirt suit. Her tall, strong legs flowed to her feet in tiger-skin pumps. She had been quiet for the past two hours, ever since they’d left the party happening inside the hotel and ascended to the roof. The only word she’d spoken was her name. Buchi Biko.
Augustine’s stare returned to her face. He’d been trying to catch her eye for a long time. But she’d studiously ignored him. Was she into angels? Of course, she was! Every woman, human and Nephilim, was into angels. Was Charles tapping that tight ass in the pulse-racing miniskirt? He doubted it. And, anyway, wasn’t refraining from sex high on the Pure Ones’ list of commandments?
Isaac gulped down the champagne in his glass and his black irises, each encircled by a ring of gold—Nephilim eyes—shone on each angel, one after the other. “This is a time for celebration. Let’s celebrate. That’s why we’re here, isn’t it?”
Xavier nodded. “You’re right, Isaac. We’re here to drink to a job well done. To a successful launch of the Hotel Divinus.”
Buchi raised her glass of champagne. Xavier, Charles, Augustine and Dominic lifted their bottles of manna beer.
“Refill your glass, Isaac. Let’s make a toast. It’s your hotel, after all.” Buchi said.
Wow, three full sentences. Augustine smirked.
Isaac chuckled and then, quickly poured champagne into his glass from one of the numerous bottles dotting the surface of the table in front of him. He raised his flute.
“To the Hotel Divinus!” Isaac called out.
“The Hotel Divinus!” everyone chorused.
Xavier sipped his beer and glanced around the rooftop. Klieg lights situated at various spots shoved back the velvety darkness, competing with the twinkling lights from the stars and haloing the white and blue helicopter parked on one of the two helipads. He glanced down at his watch. Ten-forty-four P.M.
He’d flown in from Lagos to this city, Abuja, this afternoon, accompanied by his brothers, on the company Gulfstream. It was his job as CEO to be here for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Neter Construction, a subsidiary of the Neter Group, had built this five-star edifice.
The Hotel Divinus towered above ground, nearly scraping the sky and boasting seventy storeys. Amongst its facilities were a top-notch restaurant, an eighteen-hole golf course and club house, an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a modern hydrospa.
Xavier smiled over the rim of his bottle at, first, Augustine, then, Dominic. It was good to have them here with him. He loved traveling with his brothers, but the pressures of their work in the Neter Group didn’t always permit them the opportunity. Dominic was the head of the pharmaceutical division, Neter Pharma, while Augustine was the director of the Neter Defense Academy.
Typical Augustine, Xavier thought. He was ogling Buchi’s pointy breasts shielded by her jacket. She was nipping at her glass of Dom, nodding at something Isaac was saying.
Augustine Cruz. His brother. One of the two dearest to him who’d arrived with him to earth from heaven about three hundred years ago. Olive-skinned and clean-shaven, amber eyes glinting. The front and sides of his midnight-black hair were pulled into a ponytail, the rest rained down from his head to his shoulders. He was attired in a black suit, white shirt and a red tie.
Xavier’s glance switched to Dominic. Charles was speaking to him, a rare smile on his lips. Dominic sat rigidly in his seat, staring at Charles with uncertain hazel eyes. It was no surprise that out of the three of them, it was Dominic that Charles chose to favor with a smile. Somehow the news had found its way into the ears of most angels. Dominic was still a virgin. One of a very small number of lower order angels.
Calm, intense, and sometimes, uptight. This was Dominic. So unlike the riotous Augustine. Pink-skinned Dominic wore his short blond hair plastered back, the sides cut low. His voice was tinged with a light Afrikaans accent. Tonight he was in a pink shirt and grey suit.
Xavier tuned back into the conversation. Smiling politely at Buchi, Dominic was saying, “It appears that the credit for the deal between Neter Construction and Isaac is due, in large part, to you.”
Charles nodded, flinging Buchi a proud smile.
“I just did my job,” she said.
Xavier glanced at her. Buchi was Charles’s second-in-command in the company. An asset to the entire Neter Group. Due, mostly, to the fact that she knew a lot of important people. Her mother was the Minister for Power and her father was the ambassador to Switzerland.
“She brokered the contract for us to build the hotel and she worked closely for months with…” Charles’s nose twitched. Like he’d just smelt something unpleasant. “…Isaac.”
Isaac cast a look of scorn at Charles.
Xavier shook his head. He couldn’t wait for this party to be over.
Dominic watched the interchange of silent hostilities between the Pure One and the Nephilim. Much as he hated Charles, he couldn’t deny that, because of the truce, they were now on the same side, working toward a common goal. The progress of the Neter Group.
That was probably why, mere seconds ago, Charles had offered to give him the phone number of a highly respected doctor who, according to Charles, had a lot of equally highly respected friends in influential positions in most of the teaching hospitals in the nation.
If this doctor was as well-connected as Charles believed, then his help would be invaluable in pushing for the use of Neter Pharma’s new blood pressure medicine, Tarzron. Tarzron was revolutionary and had performed exceedingly well in a series of clinical trials. The drug was aimed at both the human and Nephilim populations.
And, so, Dominic had given Charles his mobile phone number. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, Charles would call him with the good news.
“I heard this isn’t your first hotel,” Augustine’s voice rumbled. He inclined his head in Isaac’s direction.
“Yes… no… well, not technically…” Isaac stroked his heavy beard with one hand. “I was partners with two other guys. We owned Bright Morning Hotel.”
Augustine nodded. “You and… what are their names again?”
“Belema Briggs and Tope Adenuga…” Isaac mumbled.
“Right, right.” Augustine’s gaze inspected Isaac. Around his thick neck and above his yellow jacket and turquoise shirt, he’d tied a scarf. A man with an eye for fashion and sharp colours.
Isaac guzzled more champagne. Dominic watched his throat shift. How did champagne taste? All he’d ever eaten—all he and his brother angels could eat—was manna. Humans and Nephilim indulged in an enormous variety of culinary pleasures. Lucky them.
Augustine said, “I hear they’re recruiting teenagers now.”
“Who?” Xavier pointed his amber-colored eyes at Augustine.
“The League.” Augustine glanced at his brother. The face of the Neter Group. Xavier Osagie. His shaven head was smooth, the color of mahogany, the same color as his entire body. As usual, vain Xavier was just a touch better dressed than he and Dominic. This time, he had on a tan three-piece suit, light-blue shirt, a yellow tie and a blue pocket square.
“Have they lost all sense? To all intents and purposes, they’ve become a terrorist group.” Xavier ran one hand over his head. This fucking league. Not content with vandalizing the mills, they were now muscling into politics. If Senator Adokai was to be believed.
In a couple of months, the senatorial elections would begin. Senator Adokai’s campaign to keep his seat in the House of Senate was already in high gear. But, the good senator had become mired in a messy scandal involving him, six prostitutes and thirty-nine million naira. He’d virtually sworn to Xavier that he was innocent. He’d explained that the supporters of his only rival were behind the scandal. His opponent was human. He was Nephilim.
If that was true, that the League of Humans was backing the senator’s rival, then something would have to be done about it. The Neter Group didn’t need enemies in the House of Senate.
“Xavier, Dominic, you two remember Alexander Nasser?” Augustine asked.
Dominic nodded. Xavier rolled his eyes and said, “Agent of the Celestial Security Agency and editor of the first-rate magazine for angels, Wing Mode? Yes, sure.”
“Early this morning, he was attacked by someone from the Soldiers for Unity at one of Renate Giwa’s harem parties in Accra.”
“These Soldiers for Unity…” Isaac arched an eyebrow at Augustine. “These are the angel haters, correct?”
“Yeah.”
“They’re expanding from Nigeria to Ghana. Getting bolder.” Xavier’s nostrils flared. But, that was okay. That was great. He had someone on the inside, giving him the scoop on their entire operation. One day, he would pull that tiny string and the whole ball would unravel.
“I ought to reach out to Marcel, one of Renate’s patrons, and discuss ways we can beef up security at the parties.” Augustine remarked.
Charles sniffed. “Harem parties… I can imagine the filthy things you lower orders get up to there…”
Augustine grinned. “Is your cock getting hard, Charles?”
Dominic bit back a smile. Xavier laughed. Charles narrowed his eyes at Augustine.
“Oh, those parties…” Augustine went on. “It’s packed full with eager beauties, blessed with pert breasts and tight pussies… oh, and some of the things they can do an angel’s cock are unbelievable.”
Charles glanced at Buchi. “I’ve had my fill of slimy buggers for one night. I’m leaving.”
***
Charles was on his feet. Xavier cocked an eyebrow at him. “Slimy buggers? I thought we’re all friends here.”
Charles’s lips split in a cold grin. “Yes, we are.”
“Stay for one more bottle of beer,” urged Buchi. “I’ll be leaving in about ten minutes. We can head down together.”
He shrugged and then resettled into his seat. “One more beer.”
She handed him a chilled bottle of manna beer. He took it, nodded his thanks and twisted the cap open.
Augustine flicked a smile at Buchi. “You’re not in a hurry to leave. You must be enjoying our company.”
She lifted her flute of Dom. “No, just the champagne. It’s excellent.”
“How did you…” Dominic’s glance drifted from Buchi to Isaac. “…and you… come to learn about the present-day existence of angels?”
Isaac responded, “I’m a third-generation Nephilim. My great-grandfather was an angel.”
“Was?” Dominic asked.
Isaac tossed a hot glance at Charles. “He was murdered over one hundred and forty years ago.”
By the Pure Ones. Dominic nodded. “Ah, I see. What about you, Buchi?”
Buchi muttered, “Eighteen years ago, I met a guy in Bern, Switzerland. Very persistent guy. Asked me out a couple of times…”
“Let me guess…” Augustine growled. “You refused him.”
She ignored him. “Eventually, he told me he was an angel and revealed himself to me.”
“Did you finally have sex with him after that?” Augustine asked.
“I’d much rather talk about the person from the Soldiers for Unity that attacked your friend. What happened?”
That meant she didn’t. Damn, that was cold. Poor angel, whoever you are. “He’s dead.” Augustine murmured in reply. His thoughts bounced back to Alexander Nasser. He’d enlisted Alexander’s help in investigating the rumors about a gang of blood-drinking Nephilim in this city that were apparently behind the recent rash of missing young human women. He would have done the job himself but he had to fly back to Lagos tomorrow to officiate at this year’s swearing-in ceremony for one hundred and nine graduates from the Neter Defense Academy.
The bottom of Charles’s bottle clanged on the table, interrupting Augustine’s musings.
“I’m off.” He jumped up.
Buchi drained the remnant of champagne in her glass and rose. “Me too.”
“Later.” Charles nodded curtly at Xavier, Dominic and Augustine. Deliberately snubbing Isaac, he stomped away. Buchi raised her hand in a wave to them and then, trotted after Charles.
“Good riddance…” Dominic muttered.
“I would have loved to check out Buchi’s goods under her skirt, though,” Augustine said, grinning.
“Another time,” Xavier said. “After all, you know where she works.”
Isaac puffed out a sigh. He lolled back in his chair. “Now I can truly relax. And I can present my special gifts to you three.”
“Special gifts?” Xavier angled one eyebrow.
“Yes. From Prime Companions. It’s an escort agency offering world-class beauties specifically groomed for angels.”
“How come I haven’t heard of them?” Augustine asked. “Are they new?”
“As far as I know, they’ve been around for about five years.” Isaac glanced around. “You can make your choices on the website and I’ll take care of the costs. Interested?”
“I can never pass up pussy,” Augustine said. “Fuck yes!”
Xavier smiled. “Oh, yes.”
Isaac eyed Dominic. “And you?”
Dominic’s stomach churned. He definitely didn’t want that. But, he also didn’t want to advertise his virginity to strangers, especially to non-angels. “Yes, count me in.”
Xavier and Augustine gaped at him.
“You sure?” Xavier asked.
“Yes, why not?” What the hell had he just agreed to?
Dominic swung the door shut behind her, his heart thumping in a staccato rhythm. His nostrils twitched at the scent of lavender that trailed her. What had he gotten himself into? He should have made up an excuse. He should have come up with something! How had he allowed this to happen?
His eyes tumbled toward her. She was tiny. Probably, five-foot-three or four. From his lofty six-foot-seven height, he could see down to the part in the middle of her straight black hair, to the clean yellow-brown scalp.
Dominic gulped.
He could also see the bends of two creamy-yellow breasts through the vee-neck of her hot-pink dress. At the top of the vee was a gold zipper crowning a stretch of gold zip that ended at the bottom of the dress, just an inch above her knees.
If he tugged on that zip, he could peel her dress open, like a banana…
“Hello.” She smiled up into his eyes.
“Hi.” His voice sounded odd to his ears. Her features were fine and small. Cute eyes, snub nose, narrow lips. Was it just this stranger’s size that reminded him of her? The woman he was in love with. The woman who was, at present, dating someone else. The woman who could never be his.
She stepped forward, arms wide, as if she intended to hug him.
Dominic stuck out a hand. She froze, a frown rumpling her brow.
Then, she put her smile back on and shook his hand. “Hello, I’m Chika.”
“I’m Dominic.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Dominic.” Her gaze coursed from his face to his body. A pink tongue flitted out and licked her glossy hot-pink bottom lip.
Not knowing what to do with his hands, he thrust them into the pockets of his trousers. He couldn’t deny it. She was exceptionally pretty. A too tempting package. Already, he could feel his penis wake up and hump his trousers.
Dominic, don’t give in.
They stared at each other awkwardly.
Dominic willed his dick to shrink. He had made a commitment to himself. If he couldn’t have her, the woman he loved, he would remain celibate.
Forever.
His stubborn penis paid no attention. You idiot!
“I suppose we better…” Chika murmured, one hand dragging her zipper down.
His eyes opened in shock and before his mouth could protest, he sighted black lace covering the nipples of her round breasts.
“Stop!” Dominic lifted a hand and took a step back. His cock spasmed.
Chika’s hand halted. She stared up at him, eyes wide and confused. “Have I done something wrong?”
“No.” He shook his head, wishing his erection could vanish. He shouldn’t have agreed to have a girl in his room. “It’s not you… Ur, do you want to…”
Dominic careered to the bed and crashed onto it. His engorged organ tented his grey trousers. Damn. Damn. Damn.
Waving at the damask-covered chair by the bed, he muttered, “…do you want to sit down?” Sweat prickled his collarbone.
She inched forward, uncertain. “Is everything alright?”
“Yes, everything’s fine.”
Chika landed beside him on the bed.
Dominic’s throat dried up. Her left thigh rubbed against his right. This close, he could watch every swell and fall of her breasts.
He vaulted off the bed and fled into the armchair.
“Don’t you want me?”
He sighed. “I just think we should get to know a bit about each other.”
“And it’s not because you don’t find me attractive.”
Dominic pinched the strained fabric of his trousers above his throbbing organ. “Does this look like I don’t find you attractive?”
Chika laughed. “No, it doesn’t. Dominic, I think you’ve very handsome.”
“Thank you.” His balls were stiffening. This was torture!
“And I want to make love to you… do you want that?”
At this moment, more than anything. “You’re very pretty, Chika, but, I prefer to just talk.”
Her lips trembled, displaying her disappointment. She focused her gaze on his face. “Would you have preferred another girl? Is that the problem?”
“No, I assure you. You’re… Ur… very nice.”
“But you don’t want to have me.”
“I want to!” He blinked. Had he just said that? “What I mean is… maybe some other time.”
“Then… do you want me to leave?” Her mouth puckered as she yanked her zipper back up. “But, my time with you has been paid for.”
“No, don’t leave. Just tell me about yourself.”
“Okay…” her soft voice hummed with dissatisfaction. “My name is Chika and I’m an escort. What else do you want to know?”
“Your family. Tell me about them.”
“I’m the last born. I have three elder brothers. My dad and mom are separated and live in different cities.”
“Who in your family are you closest to?”
She ogled the lump in his trousers. “I could help with that. At least, let me suck you off.”
Dominic’s heart jack-hammered. Was her giving him a blowjob any different from the many, many handjobs he’d given himself?
Maybe not.
But, once he’d opened the door… would he have the strength to stop at just oral sex?
He threw her a patient smile. “Chika, answer my question.”
She wrinkled her snub nose. “I only want to make you happy.”
“I’m happy, Chika. Talking to you makes me happy.”
She breathed out a doubtful sigh and then continued, “We’re not a very close family.”
“That’s sad.”
“The one person I was closest to in the world was my best friend, Kate.”
Dominic frowned. “You said was…”
Chika’s shoulders drooped. “She’s missing, presumed dead.”
“How long has she been missing?”
“Nine months. I’ve complained to the police, to our manager, but no one seems to be doing anything to help.”
“Was she an escort too?”
Chika nodded solemnly. Her eyes had left Dominic and were now staring unseeingly at the window directly opposite. She replied, “Yes. As a matter of fact, she was the one who introduced me to the business. I was struggling, earning peanuts as a customer care personnel in a telecoms servicing company. Once I graduated from university, I was basically alone. My parents and brothers left me to fend for myself. ”
Still gazing forward, she chuckled. “I was always borrowing money from Kate. She was… She is such a darling.”
Dominic watched her young face momentarily age. “What happened to her?”
“One evening, she went on a call to Bright Morning Hotel and never returned.”
Bright Morning Hotel. He’d heard that name only a few hours ago.
Chika said, “For two months after her disappearance, I tried unsuccessfully to get our manager to send me to the hotel. Then, one day, I heard the hotel had closed down and that one of its previous owners was constructing a new hotel. This hotel. And, luckily, this night, I got the chance to come here.”
Dominic slanted a quick glance downward. Thankfully her sad story had deflated his prodigious erection. Whew.
He asked, “So, what did you plan to do once you got here?”
She glanced at him and licked her lip. “Make love to you…”
He grinned. “Aside from that.”
“Ask around. Find out if someone knows something. Some of the staff from Bright Morning are here.”
An idea dropped into his head. Dominic said, “Why don’t we, you and I, pay the owner, Isaac, a visit and ask him if he knows anything about what happened to your friend? I guess he’s on the same floor with me and my brothers. All I need to do is to call down to reception for his room number.”
Chika’s eyes watered. “Are you serious, Dominic?”
“Yes, I am. I want to help you find out what happened.”
“You’re sweet. I want to kiss you.”
He chuckled. “No kissing necessary. It’s my pleasure to help.”
And it would help take my mind off sex.
