What inspired you to write your book?
I enjoy writing, I enjoy being creative, I’m a naughty girl and I need the money ; )
Here is a short sample from the book:
The girl, about twenty-five years old Tom guessed, though the hijab she wore made it difficult to see her face clearly, reached out proffering the tray at arm’s length and Tom took the food gratefully.
He had a chair to sit on if he wished but chose to stand as he ate the meal. The girl retreated to a corner of the dingy room and watched him eat. She had never been so physically close to a black man before, and certainly not a black American. Most of the blacks in the city were Aficans, and she had no business with them.
“Do you speak English?” asked Tom.
The girl said nothing.
“I don’t know if you can understand me. My government will not pay a ransom. If your friends intend to kill me, then I’m a dead man. Do you understand? No ransom.”
The girl continued staring at him.
“If you can help me escape, escape, see …” Tom indicated his manacled legs “… if you can get me across the border, you will be rewarded. Big reward, you understand? Lots of money. When I tell my people you helped me escape, you can come back to America. No danger for you. You will be a big hero in America, for freeing an American soldier. Do you understand?”
“I not allowed talk with you,” she suddenly said in a whisper, giving a furtive glance at the door.
“You do speak English,” said Tom. “Will you help me?”
“I help you, I die,” said the girl.
Tom handed her the empty tray and sat on the wooden chair, and they regarded each other.
