Here is a short sample from the book:
“Don't be afraid, Acantha. I'm here for you, to show you who you are, what we are together. In time, we'll bring you to the pack. For now, you must let me in.”
The pack. That was the second time he'd said it. What did it mean? He said he'd show me who I am. I didn't know who I was. All my life I'd felt different, like a stranger in a familiar world. I was aware of my beauty, but I found it more a hindrance than a blessing. The men that pursued me wanted my body only. They cared not a whit for my mind, my soul. I'd never known true love from anyone, though my adopted parents meant well. This man, this stranger was promising me things I'd been searching for my whole life.
Against my better judgement or basic common sense, I opened the door to the strange beautiful man. When he looked into my eyes, I gasped, my breath husky and hoarse with lust. When he stepped forward, I stepped back. Once inside my small flat, he closed the door softly behind him.
“Who are you?” I whispered. “What are you? Why do you make me feel these things?”
“They are your memories,” Rafe told me, walking slowly towards me. I backed up, each of my steps back matching each of his forward. “Memories of a time before you were snatched from us. A time when people feared us, called us monsters. We aren’t' monsters, we simply want to live in peace. We are the last of our species, Acantha. But with you now, the pack is complete again.”
