About the author:
"Fairy-tale fantasies for the heart."
Hello everyone! My name is Ann, and I am an independent Filipino author with a passion for poetry and writing. My love for writing began at five years old, when I drew a picture book as part of my kindergarten project. My fascination with romance novels began at fourteen. I lean towards creating female protagonists with characteristics such as loyalty, longevity and inner strength, much like the sunflower depicted in my logo.
I love writing about knights-in-distress and damsels-in-shining-armor. I also enjoy referencing and incorporating Filipino or Asian culture into my stories. When I'm not writing in my notebook or typing on my laptop, I'm probably binging on anime, drawing on my sketch pad or killing it at karaoke.
What inspired you to write your book?
'Catwished' is a story that I wrote in college and has become one of my favorites. It all started when I discovered that the traditional mythological genie was capable of shapeshifting into other animals. The book has gone through so many revisions over the years as my writing skills progressed, but the core romance has always remained the same.
Here is a short sample from the book:
Sid raced to the kitchen… and almost stepped on a bowl-turned-thousand-piece-puzzle on the floor. The place was a catastrophe, with pastry crumbs scattered all over the counter and orange juice spilled on the dining table. Then Sidiro suddenly remembered the cutting board and the knife beside the sink. “Oh no. Didn’t I tell you not to stray into the kitchen?”
By the time he rounded the end of the counter that partitioned the kitchen into separate cooking and dining areas, he had already heard the slight whimper of pain. He prepared himself for a stubborn and accidentally injured cat. He certainly didn’t expect to find a naked, bleeding woman huddled like a scared child on his tiled floor.
For a moment, Sidiro stood smack still, staring wide-eyed at her. The plush fur had been replaced by pearly skin, flawless from head to toe. The cat’s fur—woman’s hair, rather, was a swirl of silver and ivory locks that curled and fell over her shoulders. Amber eyes searched his, and blood-red lips trembled in surprise. Her hands were minute, as was her whole supple body.
One of her hands had a fresh wound, and it was dropping tiny red splotches of blood on the tiles.
“Oh man!” Sid snapped out of his reverie. He grabbed a dish rag from a rack near the sink to dab at the cut on her palm. He bent down while making sure that his towel was still tied securely. “What happened to you?!”
The woman sank further into the bend of the counter and tried to hide her bleeding hand behind her folded legs—legs that were clean and fair, unlike his perverted mind. 'Come on Sid, snap out of it! Never mind that she’s the sexiest bare woman you’ve ever seen. She’s bleeding, for heaven’s sake!'
He inhaled and reached out to touch her knee, painstakingly trying to avoid the display of provocative flesh she had all over her. “Hey, I didn’t mean to snap at you. But you’re wounded, and that’s why I’m worried. Want me to look at that cut?”
