About the author:
A connoisseur of sense and nonsense in equal measure.
J. C. Gilbert is a New Zealand based author and psychologist who loves to write silly and satirical adventures to give people a bit of a laugh and an escape. When he is not writing, he is usually by the sea-side listening to a book or dreaming of his next adventure.
What inspired you to write your book?
I wanted to write something which was sort of Discworld meets Cowboy Bebop. Cowboy Karen was originally only supposed to be a writing exercise, but I soon fell in love with the characters and am now pleased that I can give Karen and Fluffy their own series.
Here is a short sample from the book:
“You are a sap. I know what’s going to happen now. You are totally going to ‘pull a human’ and track down this Mirae kid.” said Fluffy.
“You don’t know that," said Karen. "This kid is probably better off without the Alliance anyway. I might just keep this thing. I haven’t decided. Could be worth a lot of money.”
“Oh, yeap,” said Fluffy, unconvinced.
“So, our thief is Alliance? Figures.”
“You don’t like the Alliance? I would have thought they were right up your alley.”
“How come?” asked Karen.
“You know, they have that whole ‘I don’t want to kill you but will if I have to’ thing going on, just like you. And then they inevitably snap and become more lethal than the bad guys. Just like you.”
“I haven’t snapped,” said Karen.
“Give it time.”
