Stella is an orphaned young woman who scrubs clothes to earn a living. A wealthy aunt and uncle adopt her and introduce her into high society. Her life is perfect, that is, until one full moon, she shifts into a fire-breathing weredragon.

Stella must keep her dragon alter ego a secret from the family. While struggling to hide this new development from them, she is courted by two men — Jasper, a fun-loving country gentleman, and Idon, a stern lord who owns a massive castle in the northern mountains.
