What inspires you to write romance books?
I have always loved to write but I think my inspiration comes from my maternal grandmother. I remember sitting around the table listening to her stories and getting lost. I never got tired of hearing her tales of the old days. I love reading romance novels so it seemed, writing one made sense!
Tell us about how you write:
I like to make a brief outline of how I’d like the story to go. Music has always been an inspiration, so I create a soundtrack for my book (if it were turned into a movie) and I listen to it while I write. While I like to let the story lead the way, I often go back to my outline, especially when I get stuck.
Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I talk to the characters, try to figure out why they do the things they do. In Wicked Game, book one in the Dangerous Love Series, I would speak with a southern accent; since the story takes place in Georgia. It helped set the mood, so to speak.
What advice would you give other writers?
Don’t give up, keep writing. You are going to come across people who get your work and love it, and those that don’t. You have to believe in yourself and your talent. Be your own biggest cheerleader!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I took the advice of an author I was reading. She was kind enough to give me a few tips. I was scared to death but decided to take the leap! I had decided to publish on amazon.com exclusively. It made it easier to manage updates and promotions altogether. I was pulling my hair out trying to maintain multiple sites and I’d rather spend that time reading or writing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the future of publishing is limitless! Self-publishing has opened up the world to writers. Social Media can serve as a valuable tool to help authors promote their books. I’m thrilled to have readers in the US, England, and Austrailia! One day, I hope to have my books translated into other languages. Imagine the possibilities!
