Author Interview: Kelley Heckart

About the author:
Multi-published author Kelley Heckart lives in Arizona with her musician husband, dog, and a number of backyard “pets.” Her stories reflect her passion for ancient and medieval time periods, storytelling and the supernatural. Inspired by the ancient Celts, her tales are filled with fierce warriors and alpha heroes, bold women, otherworldly creatures, magic, and romance. What inspires you to write romantic fiction?
I love writing stories filled with passion between two people in love and combining that with plots that surprise readers and keep them wanting more.

Tell us about how you write.
I start out with a basic idea, but it always changes as I write. My stories are character driven, so they drive the plot.

Do you listen to or talk to to your characters?
Ha ha. My characters are always in my head when I'm in full creative mode. I hear dialogue. It drives me crazy sometimes because I will wake up in the middle of the night and have to write things down.

What advice would you give other romance writers?
Don't be afraid to bare your soul. I would give that advice to all writers.

How did you decide how to publish your books?
I didn't really give it much thought. I dove in and went for it.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It's changed so much since I've been in the game, for better and for worse. I really don't know what the future holds, but it doesn't seem like paperback books will go away any time soon.
