Author Interview: Beth Prentice
About the author:
Beth Prentice is the USA Today Bestselling Author of the Westport Mysteries. Killer Unleashed, her GHP debut novel, received a bronze medal in the 2016 Readers Favorite International Book Awards.
She was born in Manchester, England, but after moving backwards and forwards across the world 13 times in 14 years she decided that at the age of 18 that Australia was to be her home. She now lives on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia where every day is a good one. She is the lucky mother of two grown up children, and, along with her ever-patient husband, she is the proud but sometimes flustered owner of four dogs, a cat, and a canary. She has always had a love of reading, and even though her background is in accounting, she has now discovered her love of writing. Her main wish is to write books you can sit back, relax with, and escape from your everyday life…and ones that you walk away from with a smile! When she's not writing you will usually find her at the beach with a coffee in hand, pursuing her favorite pastime –people watching!
What inspires you to write romantic fiction?
That's easy – love, in all its forms is the root of everything we do in life. At some point we will all have that romantic connection. What we do with that connection is the story 🙂
Tell us about how you write.
I'm not a plotter, even though I always know the beginning and the end. But what happens in the middle is often a surprise to even me!
Do you listen to or talk to to your characters?
I listen to my characters. They tell me everything and at times can make my life extremely difficult, lol. I've tried to tell them that this is how it's going to go, but more often than not they don't listen!
What advice would you give other romance writers?
Listen to your heart and write the story that it wants to tell.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My first books were self published as I didn't have the confidence to chase a traditional publisher, but once my self belief grew I submitted and did a massive happy dance when I got accepted!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It's exciting! The world of self publishing has opened up so many books that traditional publishers just wouldn't have the time to get through. Readers now have so much more to select from, and with eReaders you can have that book in your hands within seconds. Who wouldn't want that, lol? 🙂
Which romance sub-genere(s) fit your stories best?
My books are available in the following formats:
