Author Andres Mann Shares Their Story

I have written three business books, but now I enjoy writing fiction that focuses on strong female and male characters in a contemporary setting. I have published three books so far: “Tess Awakening,” “Tess Valkyrie” and “Tess Valkyrie Awakening.”
My background heavily influences what I write today. I was an Army Officer, which helps me develop realistic stories about the military. As a business executive, I write credible background stories. Mostly, due to my education in Political Science and International Relations I have an intense interest in contemporary events domestically and in the International arena.
My novels are built around the characters of Tess and Jake. The first two books in the series starting with ‘Tess Awakening’ and a sequel titled ‘Tess Valkyrie.’ Based on real contemporary events, the stories reflect the challenges of international political developments in the Middle East and the issues that professional women experience in today’s world. True to life, I address many aspects of people’s lives, starting with the second Iraq War and ending in the current era. Action, intrigue, deceit, obsession, sensuality, the use of wealth to achieve one’s goals and the struggle between corruption and ethics are a constant theme.

What inspires you to write romance books?
Love, romance and sensuality are part of the human experience and should be an integral part of any story. My novels primarily focus on strong women, their men and well-drawn villains. They are a vehicle to tell stories of great importance, based on real current events. Fiction is a means to explore political and international issues and the impact that such events have on the protagonists who are in the end represent actual human beings trying to make sense of the world around them.

Tell us about how you write:
I find myself unable to follow good advice about how to write efficiently. I don’t develop an outline beforehand. I don’t even know where I am headed, I just let the story go where it wants to go. Occasionally I get stuck, and I have to pull back until the story progresses to a logical conclusion almost organically. I don’t get up early or write into the night. I put in a good work day. Even though I am writing a series, I ensure that each book is stand-alone and of the proper length. I am very concerned with quality, and even though the stories are published in e-book format, they are actually intended for delivery as printed books.

Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I discuss the characters at length with my wife. I pay a lot of attention to dialogue which should reflect how intelligent people really talk. In many ways, my characters are real people that keep growing as they work through the stories.

What advice would you give other writers?
Don’t listen to naysayers. Write what’s in your heart and share yourself as much as possible.

How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to start with Amazon because of their amazing publishing tools.

The erotic content limits what one can do on the Amazon platform, so I am planning to do more with other resources.

What do you think about the future of book publishing?
In my experience, the traditional vanity press cannot compete with the tremendous, mostly free resources provided by the likes of Amazon. This works for authors that are skilled writers and don’t need their hand held.

Electronic publishing is going to grab an increasing share of the market, but it will not completely displace printed books.

On the downside, the ease of e-book publishing has unleashed an avalanche of short books of questionable quality and value. Things will probably sort themselves out in the future.

What genres do you write:: Romance, adventure, travelogue

What formats are your books in: Both eBook and Print
