Fall Again: Beginnings by Donna Figueroa

FALL-AGAIN-Beginnings-8What if you were to meet the perfect person – your best friend, soul mate and the great love of your life – but at the wrong time?
That question is at the heart of Fall Again, a contemporary romantic series about two working actors, Marc Guiro and Lauren Phillips set against the backdrop of New York, Los Angeles and points in-between over two decades.
In the first book, Beginnings you’ll meet Marc & Lauren and their closest friends in the optimistic New York City of the late 1980’s.
Marc Guiro is from Montreal Canada and is pursuing acting against the wishes of his family. Marc’s serious approach to life rarely allows others to get close.
Lauren Phillips is confident, positive and has been fixated on moving to New York and becoming an actor since she was a child growing up in the Midwest. Since her graduation from college Lauren’s sole focus becomes her career.
Marc and Lauren meet when they are very young and focused on building their careers as professional actors in New York City. Despite an obvious attraction, decorum dictates that their relationship remain platonic.
One major complication is Miriam, Marc’s longtime girlfriend and the daughter of his father’s business partner. Miriam hates everything about his life in New York and has her mind set on marriage.
Over time Marc and Lauren find themselves struggling to maintain the façade of being just friends to those around them, as well as to each other. But regardless of their best efforts to remain friends, Marc and Lauren fall in love.
The Fall Again series not only follows the lives of Marc and Lauren, but also provides a realistic look into the lives of working actors.

Targeted Audience: Women 21+

Author Bio:
I’m Donna Figueroa, an actor living and working in Los Angeles CA. My credits include roles on the big and small screens, commercials for radio and television, industrial and educational projects and of course my first love, theater. I earned my BA in Acting and speech from Emerson College in Boston MA.

I am a producer at Story Salon, Los Angeles’s longest running story venue where our focus is first person narratives. Many of our members have developed solo shows that they have moved to other venues locally and across the country. Last year I introduced fiction into our repertoire, and our quarterly Fiction Showcases have featured established published authors as well as those new to the fiction genre.

My passions are shopping, fashion, traveling, classic Hollywood and the city of San Francisco.

My husband writer comedian Tony Figueroa and I live in Los Angeles with our three adorable and neurotic cats.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Fall Again: Beginnings is the first book in the Fall Again Series. My original plan had been to write a short story before I decided to write a stand alone novel. The novel eventually grew into a series.

My story is set in the world of working actors. I naturally drew from my own experiences in the industry (I began working professionally as an actor while still in college) and from the experiences of other working actors. We work in a profession that is often misunderstood. I wanted to present a realistic glimpse into the lives of hard working artists as opposed to glamorous celebrities.

But this is also a Romantic novel. Shortly before I began writing I went to a girls night where the conversation turned to the subjects of first loves and the one who got away. Several women on this night wondered what would have happened if they had met someone from their pasts at a different time in their lives.

Not long after this girls night, I began writing to the theme: what if you met the perfect person- your best friend, your soul-mate and the great love of your life…but at the wrong time?

Teaching Tori by Annie Rehmann

Resized-RGB-Teaching-ToriTori has put up with Gerard’s bullying for so long, she is surprised when Tom, a visiting adviser to her school, turns into an ally she doesn’t really want. Fiercely independent and wary of people (except for children, of course), she is perfectly capable of dealing with Gerard by herself.
Despite her efforts to keep Tom at an arm’s length, he manages to gain her trust, and a tender relationship starts to form. A future with Tom looks certain until a misunderstanding leads Tori to pull away from him. When she recognises her mistake, it is too late to win him back.
The breakup affects her greatly, down to the one constant she could always fall back on in times of crisis: her love of teaching. Tori fails to meet her own high expectations of an inspiring teacher which leads her onto a downward spiral of feelings of inadequacy and guilt.
After weeks of misery, Tori takes to the hills of Central Otago to clear her head. High up in the tussock country she loves so much, she realises that it is time to move on and let go of the past.
The decision comes as a relief, but a sudden weather change gives Tori little time to dwell on it.
Will Tori make it home safely to put her decisions into action? And will Tom ever find out what happened to her?

Targeted Audience: women 21 and up

Author Bio:
Annie Rehmann grew up near Basel/Switzerland. In 1997, she and husband Ralph decided to make New Zealand their new home.
Annie has always had a love of language, especially writing. At school, she thrived on the challenge of expressing herself with clarity not only in her native German, but also in other languages. For a while, Annie aspired to be a journalist one day, but she decided that she wasn’t thick-skinned enough and instead trained as a primary teacher.
Annie started to write her own fiction, in English, a few years ago, resulting in her first novel “Teaching Tori”.
When Annie isn’t teaching, reading or writing, she spends time with Ralph and teenage daughter June on their off-grid solar powered house project. She loves tramping in the South Island with Ralph, June and her two dogs Freddie and Pepper.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This book started with a scene at the start – Tori is seeking refuge in the toilets after a verbal attack by her principal, and Tom, a visiting adviser to her school happens to see her. The characters and storyline grew from there. I wanted to write a book that I would love to read. It had to be compelling, and it had to move the reader.
I also wanted to give an insight into life as a teacher in New Zealand, and to share some of the wonderful scenery of the South Island.

Reverb by J. Cafesin

ReverbNovelJames Whren is brilliant, beautiful, rich, and taken—with his genius for creating music. Desired by many, he commits to no one but his muse. On the eve of his brother’s funeral his father shatters his life, and James is left abandoned in hell with no one real to save him.

Until Elisabeth, and her son, Cameron.

Reverb is a love story, a psychological thriller paced with romantic suspense. Spun from The Magus (John Fowles), also about a man who learns to love someone other than himself, and way beyond 50 Shades of Gray (E.L. James), Reverb is told like Crime and Punishment, modern, tight, dark, edgy verging on sharp. It’s like nothing you’ve read, guaranteed.

5/5 Stars / Top Pick! “This is one of those stories that pulls you in immediately and has you frantically turning the pages to see what happens next.”–Diana Coyle, Night Owl Reviews

Targeted Audience: 21-55

Author Bio:
J. Cafesin is a novelist of taut, edgy, modern fiction, filled with complex, compelling characters so real they’ll linger long after the read. Her debut novel, Reverb, has been called “riveting; compelling; an original and unique read,” by recent reviewers. Other works include her fantasy YA/NA short story series, Fractured Fairy Tales of the Twilight Zone—“5 Stars. Great read for YAs, and even some not-so-young adults.” Her second novel, Disconnected, called “unabashedly unafraid, completely honest writing,” released July 2014.
Her essays and articles are featured regularly in national publications. Many of the essays from her ongoing blog have been translated into multiple languages and distributed globally: http://jcafesin.blogspot.com
J. Cafesin lives on the eastern slope of the redwood laden Oakland Hills with her husband/best friend, two gorgeous, talented, spectacular kids, and a bratty, but cute Shepherd pound hound. Find her on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
James has been inside my head since I was a kid. Made him up when I felt afraid. Started when I was little, pretending to be a guy because men were supposed to be stronger than women, and when I felt scared I sought strength. I found it in James. As I grew he took on a life of his own, with a complex family history. He was brilliant, what I always wished to be, and insular, like most men seemed to me. Felt compelled to write about him to shed him from me completely. In giving him ground, perhaps I too could find some, learn to handle fear on my own.
For quite some time after finishing the novel, our separation was complete. Fear still takes me by the throat and is choking, often, but now I deal with it instead of cloaking James. He’s merely a character in a novel, after all. But not anymore. The audiobook of Reverb will be out in October. The narrator’s voice has taken James outside of my head. He’s been actualized, made real. And having James out there somewhere now, playing out the rest of his life story as I write this blog, is on the extreme end of surreal.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I had the idea for a short story about a married woman who falls in love with a Native American man. I don’t know where this idea came from, but I kept seeing the image of the husband, who I imagined had been in an accident of some sort, sitting in a chair with a rifle in his hands and his arms raised up in an Indian victory gesture. This image haunted me so much that I began a story about it, and that evolved into the novel, Coyote Heart.
