Incongruous: Prologue by Aloman Nicolae

There are not many things to say about “Incongruous” except that I needed a post-apocalyptic story without zombies, virus-free and nuclear-free winters. I got an idea and I started writing. The story partially satisfies what I wanted, but it’s more than that.

Targeted Audience: adult

Sunshine: The Author’s Edition by Alyssa Cooper

cover-2-girl2
When ozone levels plummeted, the world changed. There’s no going back.

This is a world where sunshine can kill. Where there are heavy steel shutters on every window, and underground tunnels for safe passage. Where citizens nourish themselves with synthetic vitamins and rationed food, living a life in darkness, never seeing the sun.

This is the only world that eighteen-year-old Manda has ever known. As this strong, passionate girl struggles to bloom in a hard and unforgiving world, she finds a single comfort; Jordy, a man who delicately shows her how beautiful life can be. But then the letter comes.

Everything is changing, all over again.

Manda will soon be evacuated from her home, transported across the country to a place where the days are shorter, where it still rains, where the sun is less deadly. There’s only one catch; Jordy may not be going with her.

She bides in agony, fighting to fit as much living into her last few weeks as she can, while she waits to learn if she will soon lose the only man she’s ever loved.

Targeted Audience: Adult

Author Bio:
Alyssa Cooper is a Canadian writer with a graphic design diploma and a passion for story telling. She collects old books and antique typewriters, and has a preference for the darker side of fiction.
After her first full-length publication in 2012, Alyssa spent two years working with traditional publishers, releasing two novels, two short stories, and one poetry collection in just over two years. In 2014, Alyssa decided to make the move into independent publishing, and has since released three short stories and a full length collection.

“I’ve always had a fascination with the darker side of life. With monsters, and shadows, and the things that go bump in the night. I’ve also always had a bit of a preoccupation with death – which may not be strictly healthy, but has always been a wonderful inspiration.

When I was four years old I stumbled down the stairs to find my dad watching Aliens – and for some reason, he let me stay up and watch it with him. Needless to say, I’ve been hooked on horror ever since, and Ripley will always be my hero.

Stories like the Alien trilogy had a serious influence on my writing style. The monsters were terrifying, but it was the humans who were interesting; they were real characters, not just props. Ripley was a strong-female-character before the strong-female-character existed, and yet she cries, she sings, she mothers first Jonesy and then Newt and then an entire crew of criminals. She was so real, so human, even in the face of complete chaos.

These are the stories I want to tell. I want to find the humanity – or lack there of – in everything.”

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Honestly, sometimes I feel like Sunshine wrote itself.

The concept is inspired by the environmental changes we’ve all been facing for years now, of course; the idea that some day our short-sighted actions could rob us of our beautiful sun. But the love story, the real heart of this book, was the story that truly needed to be told. And I think it was Amanda, a fictional character, that really inspired it.

My first outline for Sunshine had the story end with Manda’s suicide. And then I wrote the character, and she laughed in my face. She said, “I’d never do that, and you KNOW it.”

So, I was forced to write her a new story instead.

TAMING THE VIKING’S DRAGON by SHAWNTELLE MADISON. Only two riders can command an ice dragon…Drifa wants nothing more than to complete her training as a Woman of Frost, but she is called to help destroy an evil force fallen from the stars. VIKING UNBOUND by New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author KATE PEARCE. Encased in ice, traveling through space and thousands ofyears adrift from his world, Viking Einarr Bloodaxe can’t help but respond to the call of his female and finally break free of his magical entrapment.

Targeted Audience: 21+

Author Bio:
When Kate Pearce says, “Filthy Vikings?”, her friends get writing. Vikings Unleashed is the joyful product of nine romance authors, united in their fascination with the modern, sexy re-telling of the original alpha male bad boy. Pearce is a NYT and USA Today bestselling author of more than 30 romance novels. She’s joined by NYT and USA Today bestselling authors Anne Marsh and Zoe York, award-winning authors Crystal Jordan and Holley Trent, national bestselling author Loribelle Hunt, as well as, Saranna De Wylde, Shawntelle Madison and Dayna Hart.

After ten years of graduate school and too many degrees, Anne Marsh escaped to become a technical writer. When not planted firmly in front of the laptop translating Engineer into English, Anne enjoys gardening, running (even if it’s just to the 7-11 for slurpees), and reading books curled up with her kids. The best part of writing romance, however, is finally being able to answer the question: “So… what do you do with a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures?” Become a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author that’s what!

Never one to stay in one place very long, Crystal Jordan has lived and worked all over the United States. Currently, she serves as a librarian at a university in the California Bay Area.
In 2006, Crystal sold the first story she ever finished to the e-publisher, Cobblestone Press. Since then, she’s sold contemporary, paranormal, futuristic, and erotic romance to Samhain Publishing, Harlequin Spice Briefs, The Wild Rose Press, and Ellora’s Cave.
Then, the day before the 2007 RWA National Conference, she got The Call to be a part of Kensington Aphrodisia’s Sexy Beast anthology. After a whirlwind month, she had an agent and an additional two-book deal with Kensington.
And she lived happily ever after.

Dayna Hart hates writing bios more than almost anything except crawly-bugs (which means one of her four sons is, of course, determined to be an entomologist when he grows up.) Without her husband, she would have a houseful of cats, but with his influence, they have stopped at three. For now. When not writing, Dayna can be found streaming entire seasons of TV shows on Netflix (while eating either salt and vinegar potato chips or a chocolate bar (Bounty is her current fave)), playing video games, or dancing around the house to (loud) emo music. You can find her on her favorite social media sites, but there are absolutely NO photos or video allowed of said dancing. (You’re welcome)

Holley Trent is a Carolina girl gone west. Raised in rural coastal North Carolina, she’s a lady with Southern sensibilities, but in 2011 her adventurous spirit drove her to Colorado for new experiences. She lives on the Front Range with her husband, two kids, and two cats. She writes snarky contemporary and paranormal romances ranging from sensual to erotic that are usually set in her home state. Her humor is sometimes subtle, often ribald, and regularly inappropriate. If any of her stories seem overly serious at first glance–keep reading.
She’s a winner of the inaugural CIM-RWA Abalone Award (for My Nora) and a three-time Colorado Romance Writers Award of Excellence finalist (My Nora, Calculated Exposure, and A Demon in Waiting). A Demon in Waiting was a RomConReaders’ Crown finalist in 2014.
Kate Pearce was born into a large family of girls in England, and spent much of her childhood living very happily in a dream world. Despite being told that she really needed to ‘get with the program’, she graduated from the University College of Wales with an honors degree in history. After graduation, real life did intervene and she ended up working in finance which was not the greatest career choice for a would-be writer!
A move to the USA finally allowed her to fulfill her dreams and sit down and write that novel. Along with being a voracious reader, Kate loves trail riding with her family, ‘western style’ in the regional parks of Northern California. Kate writes in several different romance sub-genres under different names. She is a member of RWA and is published by Kensington Aphrodisia, Ellora’s Cave and Virgin Black Lace/Cheek.

Loribelle Hunt is a beach bunny at heart, but in a pinch she’ll settle for a pool. An Atlanta native, the Army relocated her to southern Alabama more years ago than she cares to remember. Since it only snows once every two decades or so, she decided to stay. She lives with her husband of twenty years, their three kids, and way too many English Springer Spaniels. She writes erotic science fiction and paranormal romance often with a Southern accent.

Saranna De Wylde has always been fascinated by things better left in the dark. She wrote her first story after watching The Exorcist at a slumber party. Since then, she’s published horror, romance and narrative nonfiction. Like all writers, Saranna has held a variety of jobs, from operations supervisor for an airline, to an assistant for a call girl, to a corrections officer. But like Hemingway said, “Once writing has become your major vice and greatest pleasure, only death can stop it.” So she traded in her cuffs for a full-time keyboard. She loves to hear from her readers.

Shawntelle Madison loves to write stories where something mysterious always happens. Her stories unfold in either a magical place or she drop kicks her heroine and hero into the mix of crazy magical circumstances. Her characters have been swimming around in her head for the longest of time, but its only recently that she has given into their demands and wrote down their adventures.
Why paranormal? Well, every time she thinks about writing something straight forward she gets caught in the what-if exercise. What if her hero was a werewolf or if her heroine was a nymph? How far could she go down the rabbit hole and not sound crazy? (Yet still be somewhat believable?) Writing is one of her first loves, besides web development. She is a die hard geek who earned her undergraduate degree in Math from Iowa State University. (She even almost finished a degree in Russian Studies.)
Her debut novel, Coveted, was chosen as a B&N Romance Bookseller pick for the month of May.

Zoe York is a busy working mom of two young boys, and she has been a voracious romance reader for as long as she can remember. In early 2012, she got an idea for a novel. Then another, and another. Her Google Drive account exploded with outlines and chunks of text and character bibles.
Over Christmas, she started a holiday novella. By the end of January, it was clear she was going to wander past novella length, and the story wasn’t limited to the holiday season. And it wasn’t just one book, anymore – it was also an introduction to a small town, Wardham.
A year later, she is putting the finishing touches on the fourth Wardham title, and getting ready to launch a new series (Camo Cay). That series will be written on a much slower schedule, but look for the first two titles in 2014.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This was a film script idea I had been kicking around for about 5 years. I had mapped the whole story out and realized that it would likely be easier and more impactful to write as a novel first.

The Saint Luke Mystery, a religious thriller set in idyllic Cyprus, introducing the brilliant American sleuth Milton Lessing on the trail of art forgers and killers, is his first novel.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Sitting one day on the patio of our villa in Paphos, Cyprus I looked bored watching the whitecaps (the sin of Sloth). My wife said, Why don’t you write a book? She had just finished reading the Da Vinci Code and said, Read it; it’s full of mistakes and misconceptions. You could do that. I replied, Yes, I could write a lot of mistakes and misconceptions, but I couldn’t think of a story like that. The seed was planted, though, and a couple of years later I had a story idea for The Saint Luke Mystery. Every “”thriller” starts out with What-if, and everything follows from tha’t; it’s a petito principi (circular reasoning). So one day I came up with mny What-if – a very wealthy and powerful man wanted to acquire a miraculous holy icon for its supposed healing powers and engaged an art profesor and his artist to paint a fake to replace the icon. That would trrigger a series of catastrophic events. Enter Milton Lessing, ordinary looking, but brilliant Ivy League educated insurance sleuth, whose company is on the hook for $5m.

Special Rewards Book 2 of The Coursodon Dimension Series by M.L. Ryan

Big-Smashwords-coverWhat would you do if you discovered there was a parallel dimension?
Hailey Parrish used to be an average, everyday human. Boring, in fact. After being possessed by Sebastian Kess, a magically inclined enforcer from the parallel dimension Coursodon, her life took a decidedly less mundane turn. Besides coming to grips with the existence of supernatural beings, she risked her life helping Sebastian and her heart falling for his protégé, Alex Sunderland. Now, Hailey has to deal with the bit of arcane power that Sebastian left behind when he returned to his own body and try to stay out of the crossfire when an unknown assailant seeks revenge against Alex.

Special Rewards, book two of the Coursodon Dimension Series combines paranormal romance, urban fantasy, science fiction and a bit of quirky humor.

Targeted Audience: 18 and over

Author Bio:
M.L. Ryan is a professional woman – which is not to say that she gave up her amateur status, but rather that she is over-educated with a job that reflects her one-time reluctance to leave school and get “real” work – and she spends a lot of time in that profession reading highly technical material. She has many stories rolling around in her head, and she finally decided to write some of them. She prefers literature that isn’t saddled with excruciating symbolism, ponderous dialogue or worldly implications. She also doesn’t like plots so reliant on love at first sight that it makes her feel like her head might implode. She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and teenage son, four cats, two dogs and an adopted desert tortoise.
