Preying Game by Rebecca York

Jonah Ranger was restoring an antique 1955 Chevy when he heard a woman’s voice on the car radio pleading for help. She said her name was Alice Davenport, and a man was holding her captive, forcing her into a grueling workout routine so she’d be a proper challenge when he hunted her like big game on his private estate.

As they talked, her voice shifted from the radio to inside Jonah’s head. Born with telepathic abilities, he’d helped Decorah Security rescue kidnap victims, but never had he felt this personal connection to one of them. Calling on psychic resources he didn’t know he possessed, Jonah was able to project himself to Alice’s location, where he could hold her in his arms, touch her, kiss her, and plan.

Targeted Audience: 21-61

Author Bio:
Ever since she can remember, Rebecca York has loved making up stories full of adventure, romance, and suspense. As a child she corralled her friends into adventure games or acted out romantic suspense stories with a cast of dolls. But she never assumed she could be an author because she couldn’t spell. Her life changed dramatically with the invention of the word processor and spelling checker–and the help of her husband, Norman Glick, who spots spelling errors from fifty paces away.

Rebecca’s Career Achievements. A New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly best-selling and award-winning author, Rebecca has written over 145 books and novellas. In 2011 she became the dozenth author to receive the Romance Writers of America Centennial Award for having written 100 romantic novels. Her Killing Moon was a launch title for Berkley’s Sensation imprint in June 2003. Five more books in the series have followed.

Rebecca has authored or co-authored over 65 romantic thrillers, many for Harlequin Intrigue’s very popular 43 Light Street series, set in Baltimore, and many with paranormal elements.

Her many awards include two Rita finalist books. She has two Career Achievement awards from Romantic Times: for Series Romantic Suspense and for Series Romantic Mystery. And her Peregrine Connection series won a Lifetime Achievement Award for Romantic Suspense Series.

Nowhere Man was the Romantic Times Best Intrigue of 1998, and the book has been selected as one of their Reviewers’ “all-time favorite 400 romances.” In addition, she received the 1998 Affaire de Coeur Critics Choice Award for Best Contemporary Novel, also for Nowhere Man. Rebecca’s book, Amanda’s Child, won the 2001 New Jersey Romance Writers Golden Leaf Award for Long Contemporary and was nominated for Best Intrigue of 2000 by Romantic Times. The Secret Night and More Than a Man both won RT’s award for Best Harlequin Intrigue of the Year for 2006 and 2009, respectively.

Rebecca enjoys cooking, walking, reading, gardening, rock collecting, travel, and Mozart operas.

She collects rocks and has been known to lug stones back from Hawaii, Ireland, and Alaska. Rebecca and her husband Norman travel frequently to research settings for novels and taste new dishes for cookbooks. Trips in recent years included Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, London, New Orleans, and Maui. Her many unique experiences are apt to end up in her books–like the time she encountered a coral snake in the Guatemalan jungle or took a flight in a hot air balloon.

Deceit and Devotion by Faye Hall

“I will pay you to sleep with my wife.”

Jarrah Miyan, a young half-caste aboriginal man, is supposed to seduce a white woman into an affair so her greed-driven husband can gain full control of her inheritance, including the rare collection of black opals she keeps under lock and key. When he walks into the study to meet the poor chit he’s to take advantage of, he expects to find an aging woman who smells of stale perfume and gin. Who he finds though is the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on—the same woman whose pale thighs had been wrapped around him just a few hours earlier as she’d begged him to give her pleasure.

After their night of passion together, Emily Holtz doubted she would ever see Jarrah again. To have him standing before her now, asking for employment at her cattle station, was not a situation she had prepared herself for. She agrees to hire him on one condition. He has to spy on her husband and get her the incriminating evidence she needs to apply for a divorce. She’s spent years in a miserable arranged marriage, and she’s desperate to escape. But her husband is a dangerous man, and he will stop at nothing, including murder, to get what he wants.

As they begin to develop feelings for each other, Jarrah worries about what will happen when Emily discovers that he’s been working for both her and her husband. Not that they could ever really be together, as society would never accept that.

Content Warning: contains sex, strong language, and some violence

Targeted Audience: adult

Author Bio:
Murder, lies, deception, and love set in the outback under the Australian sun.

These are the stories of Faye Hall.

Her passion driven, mystery filled books are set in North Queensland, Australia during the development of the townships at the end of the 19th century.

Each of her novels bring something symbolically Australian to her readers, from Aboriginal herbal remedies, to certain gemstones naturally only found in this part of the world.

Each of her books tell of a passionate connection between the hero and heroine, surrounded and threatened by deceit, scandal, theft and sometimes even murder.

These romances swerve from the traditional romances as Faye aims to give her readers so much more intrigue, whilst also revealing the hidden histories of rural townships of North Queensland.

Faye finds her inspiration from the histories of not only the township she grew up in, but the many surrounding it. She also bases most of her characters on her own ancestors and their adventures when first migrating to Australia.

Faye was able to live her own passion driven romance, marrying the love of her life after a whirlwind romance in 2013. Together they are raising their 9 children in a remote country town in northern Queensland, Australia.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
My husband and I were talking over a glass of wine about some of the local families from our home town and the hardship they must have faced migrating to Australia. Once of us mentioned it would have been harder for those migrants that be friended or even fell in love with anyone from the local Aboriginal tribes. My husband commented that such a story would be good in one of my books. The rest kin of rolled on from there.

Accidental Witness (Morelli Family, #1) by Sam Mariano

Vince Morelli.

The closest I ever wanted to get to him was several rows away in English class. We’d never spoken, but of course I heard the stories about his family. I know they’re dangerous. I know he’s dangerous. Vince never had a reason to notice me, anyway—until I inadvertently witnessed his first mob hit.

His family doesn’t believe in leaving witnesses alive, but Vince seems different. He knows the best thing he can do for me is stay away, but something keeps drawing us together. Despite knowing the risks of getting mixed up with him, I can’t resist. Only problem is, Vince is a package deal—you don’t get him without getting swept up in his family’s dark games.

Now entangled with a notorious Chicago crime family, will my life ever be mine again?

**Obligatory trigger warning: This is a mafia romance with dark themes. Sensitive content not recommended for those under 18. **

Deadly Sins: an organized crime thriller by Laura Read

DEADLY SINS is a dark crime thriller with a twisted love story at its heart.

Angela Balanescu, daughter of an organized crime boss, yearns to leave the town in which she grew up, instead of using drink and sex as escapism. Her father feeds on power, solely focused on how he can gain more territory. Vincent, her father’s lieutenant, feels no remorse torturing and killing those who betray the family.

When Angela develops feelings for corrupt detective Sean, she wonders whether she can learn to trust him and put a life of crime behind her. But Vincent wants her for himself, and she is drawn deeper into family politics. Soon she is plotting to kill her father’s partner, and she is forced to choose between staying to help her family and leaving to start a new life.

Targeted Audience: 21+

Author Bio:
I've worked in publishing for over seven years, as a designer for a journal and its award-winning website, and now as an author and freelance designer. My poetry has been published in two anthologies.

DEADLY SINS is my debut novel – an exploration of the sexism that can permeate families and how sin can influence us all. My next book will be about a political affair.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
DEADLY SINS is an organized crime thriller/romantic suspense, which explores the sexism that can permeate families and how sin can influence us all. I wanted to write something dark that crosses genres and focuses on a female protagonist who wants more power. My protagonist, Angela, feels powerless because she's the boss's daughter, and she uses drink and sex to escape her life. She falls for a corrupt detective and faces a choice between staying to help her family and leaving to start a new life. It's similar to THE SOPRANOS but told mainly from a female perspective.
