Tempting the Governess by Vivienne Westlake

TG2-LGNever fall in love with your employer. Any respectable governess knew the cardinal rule. Christine Aubrey prided herself on her devotion to her charges, never suspecting that one day a former pupil would tempt her to break every rule in the book.

Theodore Blake was a “good boy” who grew up into a responsible man. Shouldering the burden of raising his sister’s children and managing his older brother’s affairs, Teddy has always done the right thing. But when his former governess returns to Birchwood, all he can think about is how good it would be to be bad.

Targeted Audience: 21-60

Author Bio:
Vivienne Westlake has been reading and writing romance since the age of fifteen. What makes her stories unique is her love of a sassy heroine who keeps the hero on his toes. Though she has a fondness for redeemable rakes, Vivienne’s favorite Jane Austen/Regency hero is Captain Wentworth.

Vivienne is an active member of Romance Writers of America, Romance Divas, Indie Romance Ink, and the I Love Historical Romance group on facebook.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to tell a short story and the idea of the Regency/Victorian governess has always intrigued me. Class distinctions were much more rigid in the 19th century, and though a governess might be well-born, the nature of her position was precarious.

She was too refined and well-born to be a servant, but she worked for a living, which made her beneath the gentry. So she was isolated, a creature to be pitied and–at least by the lady of the house–something to be feared. If she was pretty, she would be a temptation to the men of the household, and if she was very good at her job, she might “steal” the affections of the children.

Then I thought about what might happen if a young man had always fancied his governess, knowing that nothing could ever come of it, due to the difference in their station. What if that man were to see her again, when both were adults and free to indulge in a mutual attraction?

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I wanted to write a series of linked stories about the people present at a Regency House Party, and their various interconnected relationships. There are currently three books in the series, of which Menage After Midnight is the second, and I hope to add several other titles in the future.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Scandalous Summer Nights came about when Jennifer Haymore and Kate McKinley were talking about getting together with some friends to create a historical boxed set. I’d always wanted to participate in an anthology, so I jumped at the chance to work with Jen and Kate. We’ve known one another for six years and it felt natural to collaborate together. Then, I found out other friends were going to be involved in the project, so I was really excited.

As for my individual story, I conceived of the initial premise for Lady Northam’s Wicked Surrender a few years ago after listening to the song, “If it Kills Me” by Jason Mraz. I first heard the acoustic version and it grabbed something inside of me. The soulful quality of his voice combined with the story of a man who pined for a woman for years, but couldn’t have her because she belonged to someone else and she only saw the singer as a friend.

An image formed in my mind of a man who had always loved his best friend’s wife, and years later, finally decides to admit it. The story morphed over time to become a tale of two estranged lovers, kept apart by abandonment and betrayal (and the heroine’s marriage to the hero’s friend). It is only once the two have matured and the person between them has long passed away that they are finally able to admit how much they love one another.

She’s thinking about adding shoes to that list.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
The characters in The Earl’s Enticement were introduced in my first book, Highlander’s Hope. I knew the minute Adaira and Roark appeared on the page, they had to have their own story.

Those two pestered me and pestered me until I finally gave them what they wanted and wrote their rather unique tale.

The Duke’s Holiday by Maggie Fenton

imageBook One in The Regency Romp Trilogy

The Duke of Montford, cold, precise, and more powerful than the Prince Regent himself, wants things the way he wants them: cross-referenced, indexed, and at his beck and call. And he always gets what he wants.

Until he meets Astrid Honeywell. And a giant pig. And a crooked castle in the middle of Yorkshire.

Astrid Honeywell, staunch bluestocking, has struggled for years to keep her family together by running the estate and family brewery after her father’s death. She is not about to let the tyrannical Duke of Montford steal away all she has worked for because of some antiquated contract between their families. So when the priggish Duke comes to call, she does everything in her power — including setting the family pig on him — to drive him away.

She didn’t expect him to be so … well, infuriatingly attractive. Every time he scowls at her, she has the most improper desire to kiss him — and a whole lot more.

Montford can’t decide whether to strangle Astrid or seduce her. The one thing he knows for a fact is that he must resist his powerful attraction for her at all costs. He has a very proper, very demure fiancée waiting for him back in London, after all. But when Astrid is kidnapped by a disgruntled suitor and whisked off to Gretna Green, Montford will do anything to get her back.

Will these two drive each other to Bedlam … or can they make it to the altar without killing each other?

Includes an OCD Duke, a fiery heroine, mistaken identities, errant livestock, pompadours, drunken declarations, a touch of smex, and enough witty banter to sink a ship.

NOTE: This is a sexy historical romance. Recommended for 18+ due to adult content.

Targeted Audience: 21+

Author Bio:
Maggie Fenton is an avid reader, reviewer and scribbler of romance in between her work as a professional musician.
